rx8 seatbelts stuck?

I've just bought a second hand pair of heated leather seats and seatbelts to install into my project truck.
Just received the belts today and they are both stuck in the fully retracted position.

Can anyone advise if this is something to do with the electric connections or if there is another reason for this??

The electric pretensioners are most likely stuck. Check out this thread. It may help a bit.

You may have to dismantle the assembly and remove the locking device in the pretensioner.

Also,

make sure they are in the intended orientation when you try to pull them out.

The guy I bought them from did say to bolt them in position and see if the free themselves but from looking at the units I can't see how that would work.
I wouldn't be overly keen on dismantling the units myself as the units have warnings about dismantling due to the explosive initiator. Could this actually be dangerous or is this just an overcautious warning?? I do know an auto electrician that might have a look at them for me.
