RX-8 AT Redlining While in Automatic

Hello RX-8Club,
It sure has been a while since my last post. So I'll give you a heads up and new details. My 2004 AT RX-8 is redlining while in Automatic Mode (Non-Triptronic) causing the buzzer to sound. This happens while the car is hot/cold, but seems to happen more at higher altitude or weather conditions (ie: Las Vegas it happens non-stop and SoCal Sealevel it happens less, its higher alt. in Vegas and Colder here right now 60's here, 70's in Cali)

Seems to be happening from 1st gear to 2nd. I've replicated two instances with the service manager in the car (Las Vegas). First, pulling out into traffic, gaining speed to be with traffic. ie: accellerating from, putting more gas as gaining more speed (this is still while car is in 1st gear) it will redline and not shift gears.

The second condidition is when you are stuck in traffic going 15mph or so, then you have room to accellerate, the car is in 3rd gear, it shifts to 1st and will redline.

Miles on the car? 99500 but has been happening since 97000.

Anyone had any similar problems?

I'm giving them my car tomorrow so we will see. He asked if I've checked the tranny fluid, we checked it and it was clean and full. Techs look at the car tomorrow.

Hmmm, mine wants to shift me to 4th gear as soon as it can, the exact opposite of what you have. The car will be in 4th at 20 mph and will start to bounce as is if it is going to stall, then it shifts down to 1st... from 4th! It does this all the time.

The A/T's ECU supposedly has a section that controls shifts. It learns your shifting patterns and adjust accordingly. It also responds to the pedals pressure, meaning if you floor it, it will go to redline in first and possibly second in full auto. Mind you though the Pc controling the shifts is dumb as **** and I've since just use the full sport/triptronic mode. If your flooring it from a dead stop all the time that is your problem, your lead foot. Just ease into it naturaly and dont floor it and youre problem will go away. Kinda surprised the Service Manager didnt point this out to you. Hope this helps anyone in the future.

I have done the tap on the brake so many times till the oil gauge move trick and that changes the shifting pattern for sure... basically seems to reset it.

Greetings, sorry for the delay in reply, the fact is I just got my car back today. They needed to test and order pieces to do the testing on the transmission. And after all said and done they said it needs a new transmission.

Mazda NA paid for the car rental all this time which was very cool of them. I am checking to see if the extended warranty will cover the transmission -- we will see.

Are you still paying for your car? finance or lease ?

if yes, have MNAO pay for those as well.
