Well if you get an automatic, get a 06+ 6 port 6 speed automatic. I am not a fan of most autos personally but we have a local guy who is disabled and heavily tracks his 07' Auto and he has no problem trouncing most 6 speed manual RX-8's on the track.

Most just swap the transmissons for lower mileage used ones. Both are prone to failure if driven hard, my buddy who tracks his 07' Auto has had his transmission replaced. Except the manual transmission made from 09+ was a different trans and more robust so many like myself make the switch to the 09+ manual trans. The auto can be upgraded but it is very expensive.

I dont think sports cars/performance based cars should even have an automatic variant! It totally takes away from what the car is about. If you enjoy driving then there is no question in my eyes, Its manual all the way!

Yeah many think this until they drive a car with a proper dual clutch "automatic".

driven one before, hated it. Its not the same feeling as a manual box, all these dual clutch gearboxes are just something more to go wrong too.

Sophisticated automatic gearboxes shift faster and with 33.42908765% more win than a manual + driver ever will.

Though the feel of the manual will always win my heart over an automatic

Well I love manual cars, I have never personally driven an auto myself as a personal car. But I have driven plenty of pdk Porsches, DSG Audis, a an SLS, etc. and a dual clutch definitely makes driving a high powered car more enjoyable. Once you get a certain HP level, you need hands on the wheel as much as possible.

Count me as a manual fan.
It's just more fun driving a stick imo.

+1 for the manual.

With my Mercedes, when I punch it from a standstill I get mild wheelspin and the stability control lights just dance and twitter till the car settles down. When I get to 100 Mph. a roll bar pops up to save me from myself.

With my 8, I turn off the Stability Control and the Traction Control and when I punch it from a standstill it does what I want it to do. I am in control, not a buncha computers. If I wanna lay 100' of rubber, it's up to ME. If I wanna drift thru a corner with the tail hanging WAAY out ... it's up to ME. It may not be the fastest way to get from point A to point B, but at least I'M driving the car.

Don't get me wrong, mostly I leave the DSC and TC on. They can save my life if I get stupid. But sometimes I just wanna have fun! and those things get in the way.
