Lately I've been experiencing a strange start. I'll turn to prime for a couple of seconds and crank for another full two seconds. I immediately see the rmp jump to 2k and drops to 300 - 500 range within a split second. It idles from there between 300 - 800 but feels like it wants to stop. I give it about thirty seconds before riding and easily go on a gentle roll. When accelerating in first and second, it feels groaty. The acceleration is not linear. In fact the first couple of seconds in the first couple of gears feels like it's dragging a million pounds until above 4k rpm. This didn't happen before so I just happen to ask the mechanic when getting an inspection what it may be. He said it was bad gas and said to start buying from him since he only sells Shell. Right now I buy Hess which I've heard it a very filthy pretrolium. Shortly after I did premix with a Techron and it took the problem away. After 3000 miles with still filling up with Hess gas, it was back. Does anyone think it might be the fuel filter that I'll need to change? If it's something else you think it is, I'll hugely appreciate your thoughts.

 

Please give us some more info... Year, miles on plugs,coils,wires. What mods have you got?...How long have you had it? What service has it had?

2005 Manual. 110k miles. I just did the plugs and wires earlier today thinking it would have helped but still experienced the same thing. I gutted out my air filter removing the screens and plastic walls inside the box and also attached on a racing beat air duct. I've had this mod for about 30k before experiencing this issue. Not sure if it caught up after all that time. I change oil every 3k and flush anti freeze every year. I've changed out the tranny fluid and dif fluid once. I haven't really brought it in to get serviced (prob bad. I know).

 

I would suggest coils first. Then have a compression test done. Maybe you could also try the zoom-zoom cleaner?
