Pulling code

I hate to make a thread but I've done hours of searching and haven't found an answer to my question. So I got a cel a few minutes ago and the dealer is charging me 75$ to pull the code. However I have a coworker with a cobb accessport for wrx and I'd like to know if it would be able to pull the code from my rx8

Sorry Clues, but WCS has a point...

An alternative to paying the dealer $75 is to buy a code reader for $50. 33% savings on this CEL. But wait! THERE'S MORE! Every subsequent CEL in the future is also now free!

Or go to your local autozone/advance/pep boy's. Most of them will pull the code for free.

Instead of searching for hours, drive to a Autozone (or your own local Parts store) and have them read your codes, or buy a $30 code reader?

Hours of searching......

I'm in Canada and we don't have an equivalent to autozone. I've done research into the Cobb for a few hours because he tried to sell me it. I should have specified. I also read that a standard code OBDII reader won't be able to tell me the cel code since the rx8 is in CAN

Well, I got the code reader and it threw a P0420. From searching the forums it's usually related to a bad cat. I'm in the Montreal area.

P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold ON 2 Catalyst ´
(See DTC P0420 )

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...sfire+Detected

Ok, so what year is your car.
Maintenance that has been performed?

The Catalytic is known to go bad on these cars, could also be a faulty rear 02 as well or if you have removed the catalytic you'll get this cell as well.

I don't understand what you are having a problem figuring out?

And no a Cobb AP from a WRX will not work on a RX8

It's a 04 ti gray, basic wear and tear items such as coils, wires, spark plugs. I simply wanted to know if a wrx Cobb would have been able to read pull the code since my co worker was telling me it was capable of doing so. I've got a agency power cat delete pipe on the way in a new few days since oem catalytic converters tend to be pricey.
