Problems with cold air intake!?
I brought my car into the mazda dealership cause my check engine light came on. They said the reason was due to my aftermarket cold air intake. Somethin about the mass air flow sensor. I dont know much about this stuff. Should this be a problem? Has anyone else had this problem?

the only time I have ever hear this problem was with the K&N type 1 (which is the one I have.) but that is not a "cold Air" kit. jsut a short ram. they fixed this problem with the type 2 by putting a screen in the air path.
I have not heard of this problem with other intakes though.
and for the record, I have never had a problem with my K&N. I love it.

what intake do you have?

I have the aem. They did mention that it was a problem with the MAF. Is this a problem caused by AEM, or was my intake not installed properly. I've had it for a year and all of a sudden this problem comes up. Does that make sense?

Light ......
If the light comes on after you installed the intake, check that the vacuum supply for the old intake is properly capped off.
The supply is under the throttle body, towards the front. If it is sucking air in, it will screw up your long and short term fuel trims, cause a rough idle, and throw a CEL.

Ill have to get someone to check that out for me cause I dont know anything about this stuff. And what is a CEL? I know this is probably a stupid question, but bear with me. And thanks for the input.

Do you have any loss of power????? If you don't have the filter system in tight then it will throw off the MAF sensor causing the check engine light to appear........Check the intake it self for leaks and if thats not it, check for an obstruction to your throttle or loose connections.........if that ain't it, run a diagnostics.
