problem with my tranny
when i first got the car i had the hard 1st to 2nd shift like everyone else had i just let the car warm up and took it easy on that shift it went away then about 18k miles later 4th gear is a pain to get into.
not to mention reverse doesn't like me much i mean i have to think reverse in my head if i just casually do it it'll grind.
i finally got fed up and didn't want to have another problem like when the clutch blew and they partially blamed it on me so i brought it in.
they took apart my tranny and in my receipt it stated transmission failure tranny overhaul required and i see they replaced a bunch of parts.
i get the car back and no 6th gear is gone its like i'm driving a 5 spd no 6th gear when the car is off and 6th gear just pops back out into neutral while driving.
other than that the car is a blast to drive and i love to drive it.

If your VIN number is within the range stated and your expierencing 1st to 2nd gear grinds, print this out and take it in.
I do not have this problem but I've read alot of posts concerning the 1st to 2nd gear grinding. This info is not a TSB (yet), the service department should know what your taling about. This info is from the Mazda mechanics database.
The last sentence states "the shift fork is strengthened for durablility", so it looks to be a redesigned part and not just another stock fork.

yea the replaced like 4 shift forks with different numbers and a ton of other parts anyway 6th gear pops out into neutral and i smell something like its oil or gas all the time that i never had before.
i also noticed that i can kind of see water in my dipstick for the oil is this regular? its not really cold here anymore.

I also noticed that they have an ending S/N in the scan. Does it imply that models from that S/N on will have the new shift forks? That could be good information for those looking to buy an RX-8 this year.
