Power Steering Light 1st.. now instrument cluster

Have a 2004, about 35,000 miles, MT. About a week ago, the power steering light turrned on and felt like I was driving a 1980 car turning corners. Took it to the dealer and they checked it and said it was the power steering moduler (electronics). They replaced it, but then they needed to replace the instrument cluster. Called today, and they said the tech is still working on it. Have you guys/gals seen this or have had this issue. My warranty is up in March. Seems like they are having issues electrical... gonna go visit them tomorrow and see what's up.

Just wanted to get some advice. Also, trying to get them to replace/paint my rear rotors due to the rust. I had my front brake pads replaced about a month ago, and I mentioned to them if they could do anything about the rust on all rotors. Guy came back and mentioned that they were going to replace front rotors. I asked about the back ones, and he said they they were short on mechanics and that they would only do the front. Figured I'd come back some other time and do the rear ones. So, since they are checking the power steering I told them to replace rear rotors. They said they can't because it's not covered under the warrranty, and the reason they did the front ones is because they were warped. I was like what da &**%#*, that's what they put on the service report after my front brake pads were replaced. What do you guys think? If they did the front ones.. they should do the rear ones.

This has happen before and to other members on here. You can search "power steering" for solutions or take it to a Mazda dealer and get it fixed.

As for the rear Rotors that have rust, I dont know. Your 35K into the Car + they should have been painted when you got them. Just goto Homedepot and get rustolum (<-spelling) paint for $3.00 and a $1.00 brush and repaint them. I did and it was kinda fun

About the warped Rotors, yeah mine are warped. I would up grade from where everone is buying there Rotors from for a great price at www.racingbrake.com
If your going to buy them take them to your Mazda dealer and tell them I have the Rotors I just want to pay for the time it takes to install them. Go with cash and try to work a deal with them. I did. They make commission
After all if your going to do the front and back you will need to prob replace the pads too and blead the system and all the fun stuff. If you want pads that dont leave a ton of dust like the OEM ones upgrade to MS pads great stuff.
Hope that helps,
-Gil

Thanks for the info.. yea did a search and found some info on the power steering issue. I was just concerned that the car has been at the dealer for almost a week and i'm anxiously waiting to get the car back. I guess I'm also hoping I can convince them to replace the rear rotors since they did the front ones. Oh.. also told them to check the rattling noise the drivers side dash makes.

the problem with the steering is likely the connector harness for the steering rack.. can be fixed by soldering.

as to your warranty it was extended to 5 yr / 60 k miles..

make sure that you have the 4206f recall up to date before it leaves the dealership..

beers

almost a week u say, so I assume thats 4 days ?

Day 1 they should've ordered all the parts, most parts will be arrived in day 2 assume that all parts are in stock @ mazda's warehouse, if the part arrived late which I doubt, cuz next day delivery almost always happen b4 12, most like 8am. anyway they should start working on it on Day 3. Fine they're lazy they took tons of coffee breaks still, u should get ur car back b4 the end of day 4.

They're lazy, so this is the first and probably last time u want to see them, oh wait, your warranty is up in march? in what ? Bumper to bumper? or ?

you should be grant that they're doing that, Free pair of front rotors, they should last another 50K miles easily, assume that you dont go crazy on them with hard *** pads. Take the deal and change your rear rotor with something better. As for rotors, any name brand ones should do, Powerslot, or RacinBrake that Dominion suggest, even Brembo if you have extra money around. oh, dont do the rear rotor swapping at dealerships, they probably gonna charge u 2 hours of labor for something could be done in 45 minutes.

- Thursday- dropped the car off late in the day, about 5:30p. They said they would look at it on Friday.
- Fri - Said part was ordered and would get there on Mon.
- Tues - Replaced part but now, intstrument cluster needed replacement, wait again.
- Wed - Still working on it, power steering not figured out yet.
- Thur - Need to replace rack & pinion, part ordered possibly ready tomorrow Fri.

So basically 5 working days so far.

Geeeesh. Planning to try and convince them to replace or paint rear rotors.

Bumper to Bumper warranty is up in March. So the extended warranty is for powertrain only right? not bumper to bumper...
