power steering

Hi guys,

Today i was driving from work like 10min and suddenly steering wheel felt so heavy to turn. Few min later ok, then again heavy.
I was driving again later and after starting car for like 10min everything is ok, then feels heavy again and normal again lol. Its jumping every few min
Any idea what to do?

I have 2004 rx8 with 47k miles. I bought it from kia dealer.
So when i have problem i go to them, not to mazda right? (my ac is blowing hot air no matter what i set-its not that bad actually since its cold outside)

i would follow mm's advice, since if u had bought it used, any warranty u woulda got was drivetrain, aka engine, transmission, maybe cat... not power steering.

You should def go check yours too! When you find it post a DIY about where it is located because I am yet to find it.... I don't think anyone on this forum was able to find it and I am sure that if you are the first to find it Mazda will give you a brand new RX-8 for your uber detective skills!

Yeah, follow the advice -- I monkeyed around with the foolish connector more than once with only brief success but the real fix is to direct-solder those wires.

There is a supposedly "improved" wiring subharness for over $100 that is reported to fix this problem, but imo it's totally not worth it when you can cut the connector out and solder the wires directly in less than half the time it takes to pull the subharness. And then it's 100% fixed for all time.

I have no warning light and its not that hard to steer. And its always easy on parking lot. Only during normal driving
feels hard for like 15 sec then feels loose for another minute then again. (Time vary).

Ill go on monday to check it. Wonder how much i have to pay...

When it still keeps acting up, consider the soldering advice.
