Power Problems and CEL

I have been having an intermittent CEL over the past few weeks. I thought it might be related to the gas cap, as sometimes the light goes out after I buy gas.

Anyway, I started having high rpm power loss, and hesitation. Once I get to 6k, the engine will hesitate for an instant, then pull to about 6800, then hesitate again. By 7k, power is all but gone. It takes an excruciating length of time to rev from 7k to 8k. I am able to accelerate normally up to 6k, so I am faster right now by shifting at 5900. There are no strange sounds, the car starts, and idles fine. Revs fine under 6k.

I have read the posts for loss of power, and the engine replacement, but I just want to confirm your thoughts...does this sound like the apex seals loosing compression at high rpm (engine replacement), or something like MOP failure (low compression fue to lack of oil)?

I finally received my recall docs in the mail, so I will be taking my car in soon. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.

I heard of an 8 like this. The problem was the catalytic converter. It was plugged.

Loss of Power- UPDATED

MadDog was right. Catalytic converter was plugged. They replaced, and also took care of recalls...no damage just heatshield. No need for replacement suspension components either. R flash is great. Throttle response is even better than before, and I wonder whether or not my converter was somewhat plugged before, because the engine seems much more powerful than before. Builds power all the way to redline, and feels like it would keep going past rev limiter. I switched to 20w-50 Castrol GTX as well, seems to run smoother, if a little harder to start when cold. I will of course, go back to 5w-20 or so when winter comes.

Happy to have my car back, and hope all of you feel as good about your cars as I do right now.
