Power loss power loss

Hi!

I have a 22k 04 with som small power loss problems. I recently got all the plugs and coils replaced under warranty because i was experiencing sloppy acceleration in the upper rpm range. The car ran REALLY nice and hard for like 2 weeks and now its back to how it was before, well not quite that bad but i can definetly feel the lack of torque. The only thing thats good is that idle is nice and smooth now since they replaced the parts, completely stable 850rpms also with ac on. Also i've never experienced a CEL. At the end of the week i will benchmark the car , hopefully it will deliver around 190whp(euro 231hp version). Could one of the plugs or coils be bad already due to some other issue?

I also got firmware upgrade same time and now my car runs as far as 220km/h in 4th gear , has anyone experienced this? Usually 4th gear would top out at 200km/h.

Dealer said they checked the cat same time as coils/plugs.. I figure i'll just wait for the benchmark. Atleat i'll have some proof. My dealer is great so it shouldnt be a problem anyway. I forgot to mention that they replaced my engine air pump or something like that 2 months ago. At the same time they put in new plugs. Car ran hard for 1 month then power loss started.

there is no way to check a cat, except temp...IMO anything over 1200* F is too hot, but techs in the us consider this kind of a gray area...best thing that can be done to our cars is a high flow cat or eliminate it all together...that cat has to do the work of what two cats do on a high output six...think about the combustion cycles it handles verses that on a six...hmmmm....I recently had a similar problem too, accelerate fine to about 7k then the tach would rise at 1/3 its normal rate with a few places it even slowed down more....changed cat and zoom zoom to 9300, like a striped *** ape!

the cat runs at 1600 in our car... they say they test the cat with a back pressure gauge.

all you have to do is take it out and look at it..

1600 well shiaut! <<< case in point, but damn I don't want to have 1600* bottleneck sitting next to my already too fragile tranny, overheating my already delicate motor, and robbing me of power! I completely trust your word on the temp, I was just quoting to three Mazda techs (proves I'm a dumb ***) who told me 1200 is too hot! That's what I get for quoting hearsay! tell me more about a backpressure guage....and I personally don't think you look at a cat see if it clogged, (if you can tell by looking at it, its been bad for too long IMO) it deals with things on an almost microscopic level...if it is not performing like it should, it doesn't have to be broken or look the toilet after that last load of "Mis Sombrero Mexican Delights" just f'd up enough to create resistance and too much heat...IMO...

I can tell you that mine looked very clean, no signs of clogging by sight and no cel, just wasn't going to take the chance and you saw my results from my above post...it was obviously clogged based on the performance change...

Your Mazda tech is shitting you

The *typical operating temp* of our CAT is about 1350~1550, if you run it continuously(track/AutoX) for an extended period of time. it might get even higher.

So just tell them take it down and *look* at it. not like its hard. and the CAT's temp will not affect your tranny or engine operation. Tranny is nowhere close to the CAT, and the engine inside runs hotter than your CAT.

Great the place I was gonna dyno the car has problems with their equipment and wont be operational until august. My car warranty expires at the end of June. I'm going to find another place to dyno the car. Does anyone have suggestions for what i should tell the dealer to check?

I was thinking the following:

1. Another cat test
2. Engine vacuum test

Any more suggestions?

I will try to check the cat myself then. Anyone got pics or DIY for removing the cat?
