power loss...can a year old cat already be bad?

Ok last year either my car got new coils plugs and wires..but not until the previous ones destroyed my cat..I had a new cat installed at mazda. Now, a year later I'm having power loss that goes away after my car is warmed up. I also notices a funny smell..not so much like sulfer but just like somthing is burning..smell isn't consistent. I have a cel light that stays on p0037 which indicated rear 02 sensor. Every thing I have searched has shown that the rear sensor won't effect the way the car runs. When it loses power it still idles ok and runs ok..just loses a great amount of power and acceleration isn't smooth...after it cools down its fine. I did not notice a glowing cat.

Any ideas? Before I let mazda rip me off I wanted to ask you guys. Could my year old cat be bad already? If so what would cause that? There is less than 30k on the new plugs/wires/coils and cat..

Help?

Yes a cat can bad in a year. Thigns like ethanol in the fuel mixture most companies use help you with that. Cats have been known to go bad at or before 30K.

Now on another note there isn't enough information here to help you. We are going to need to know the year and model, what all you have done to it. Everything about your engine, whos coils you used, whos cat you put on it, a detailed history and anything at all you can tell us about the car, mods, how many owners, and way its performing currently

Coils came from mazmart.they pulled them from a 09..I also bought from them the wires and nkg plugs....cat was replaced exactly a year ago by mazda.

My car is a stock 04. On original motor.

I know that its not physically impossible for this cat to be bad. But is it likely? I do have the p0037 code..and I did notice a funny smell but haven't smelled it lately..then yesterday my car fell on its *** and didn't get better until it cooled down. I don't understand why it did that

oh and I'm not sure how many owners were before me..the car has been running really great latly getting almost 300miles out of every tank. I did accidently fill up with 87 octane a while back but the manual says that is ok...car ran fine with it..I change the oil every 3k..been using 5w30 to top off but the oil change place should be putting in 5w20...

I don't redline every single day but at least every other day..I live on a fun backroad so I play with it a lot...

The car seemed bogged down yesterday...but not quite like it did when my coils and stuff went bad..it could still bd driven..just seemed to have like half the power..I thought my engine was blown until I ran it again after it cooled and it ran fine...

Oh and yesterday when it started acting up it was while I was sitting in traffic for a long time
