Unhappy let me tell you about my day....

today i got out of school at noon... went to mcdonalds with friends who all have automatic sports cars. (having an automatic sports car is a crime... i know) but anyways... they were all "peeling out" but with very little luck

but i did peel out... it was a great peel out.... but when i straitened out i lost about 90% of my power steering but my alignment is totally fine. anyways long story short... anyone know how i can trouble shoot it and find the problem and what areas i should look at?

reward for all those who help

First I would check your power steering fluid and make sure there is no leak, pressure buildup could have happened and sprained a leak in the line.

Next, start the car, pop the hood, and have a friend turn the steering wheel left to right. If you hear loud noises and screetching, your belt is slipping or there is air in the system. Turn the wheel all the way to one direction with the steering fluid cap open to purge the air

See if your overflow bottle hose puked onto the connectors beneath them.

to be frank, my friend took his 8 to a MAZDA dealer, and the tech thought it was fluid/belt driven power steering as well... what a ding-dong.

I'd be curious to see what clutch they're referring to since your car is an automatic.

Mind if I go in loco parentis on you? You're young enough to be in school, and I'm an old fart. I need a slight break from yelling "You kids get off my lawn."

Please don't peel out on public roads. It's illegal...once the tires spin you can be nailed for not maintaining control. And they have a point - you're not really in control. If you're with friends and you peel out together, that becomes street racing.

@dmedz8 did you happen to bring your 8 to a trusted NON-DEALER mechanic before you bought it? and if I'm not mistaken, in one of your other threads, you said your parents will be paying for your "First year's $7K" that every owner goes through. Theres a section (5-28 if I'm not mistaken) in the owner's manual that shows you how to turn off the TPMS light. It's a easy fix. Good luck with the clutch.

yes my parents are paying for the "reasonable stuff" that being defined by my parents llol

but yeah figured out my tpms i was filling the tires to the level the tire specified and not the car.

also my parents bought the car new from mazda and i bought it from them

I don't have a specific suggestion regarding a clutch, however I would suggest that while you're doing the clutch, get a lightweight flywheel. Also, I hear ACTs are pretty good. Have a look for yourself. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...53#post1393353

My recommendation on your clutch is less burnouts. :P Seriously though...I would put money on the $1300 being for the part at Mazda and not include install. Check with them on that before you start considering options.
