you guys aren't just in left field you're out of the ballpark across town, you CAN NOT fix a shock this way, nor should you put grease in there because it will only cause sand and dirt to build up cause more damage
if the shock is making noise it is damaged internally, the OE shocks are not rebuildable, the only course of action is to replace it

team rx8 is right...........if u try puttin grease on a strut or shock thats leakin........would u try n put a bandaid if u like had ur arm almost completely cut off.........no point its not worth it, spend the money n get new parts......also for the guy that started the thread with the problem, r u havin uneven tire wear, if one part of ur tires on the front wears out quicker then another part of ur front tires, it might be a steering issue, maybe a bad tie rod........ or an idler arm has gone bad........dunno for sure but puttin in my $0.02

Mine just started making that noise but it's only when I hit the brakes. And only at slow speeds like when I'm pulling out of a parking spot. I can hear it once i depress the pedal? Weird
