PLEASE HELP!! Lost my only Key..How do I program new Transponder Key !????

Ok so here is the deal.....I lost my house keys yesterday along with the only Key I had for my 8. I bought a new transponder(chip) key today from the dealer.......so I used this to open my trunk thinking I prob left my keys in there but I didn't.

So now I can't start my car....the dealer tells me the only thing I can do now is have my car towed to the dealership so they can program the key for me!!! I DONT want to spend towing fees along with their ridiculous price for programming. Does anyone know how to program a transponder key !?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

If you have two working keys, you can program a third yourself. But if you have one or none, you can't.

Try a locksmith. Thanks to antitrust laws, licensed locksmiths are supposed to have access to programming codes. Whether they spend the money for the supporting hardware is something else, but it's worth calling some and seeing.

Without TWO working keys in your possession you will not be able to program a new key.

The Dealership is your only option.

Sure it does. The link I clicked on revealed that you must have 2 keys... Also, it is a way to show that there is plenty of info on this already, and with a few simple words, he can look up nearly anything he wants.
Good for future reference when searching...

Ok thanks guys. So I called a few locksmiths...the highest wants to charge me $329 + tax and the lowest was $150, which I guess is cheaper than towing my car to the dealer.

BUT...now this means that ima have to pay to get another key programmed if I decide to buy it for a spare? This sucks...why the hell can't you program a second key if you have one that works....don't understand

All of the locksmiths I spoke to asked me for the year, make, & model of my car......3 companies said they couldn't program my key, but 2 other companies that I called said they could for $150 and they will come to my location. So I don't need to go to the dealer.

By the way....all of them said my key was a dealer item and they wouldn't be able to provide and cut one for me, which is why I went to the dealership earlier today to buy one and have it cut using my cars VIN #.

He's in a jam right now, and needed answers, not training for the future.

I'm guessing you're a chem lab teaching assistant?
