please Help Help Help

I removed my air pump last night and the car started to act funny. The engine revs down and turned off by itself. I put the air pump back but still having the same problem. I disconnected the battery so maybe I could reset the computer but nothing happened. When I let the throttle go, the car dies. I really don't know what it could be. I double checked everything and everything is hooked up the way it was originally. If anybody has any idea please help. Thanks a lot.

Since the problem is apparently related to the removal/reinstall of the air pump, retrace your steps and you will likely find a vacuum hose or electrical connector that is loose, disconnected or connected wrong. That is, unless you made other changes that we are not aware of.

Did you undo the ground wire?

The airpump shares the computer's ground at the shock tower - make sure it's tight.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and help. I couldn't wait anymore. I took it to the dealership (which I didn't want to do). Mazda dealership in canada does not seem to know anything about rotary engines, but I did take it there for a computer check. It looks like it had a vaccuum air leak, but it is fixed now. It might be good for other people to know if something like this happens they should check all the small pipes for air leak. Thanks again.

I removed every thing possible from my car, now it weighs around 2600lbs. Even the side windows are lexan windows. Removing the air pump was only for saving weight. There is no stereo, air condition, speakers, rear seats, and many other more.

To save more weight, I changed to single exhaust, 6lb battery, light weight racing seat and a lot more.
I was a professional go cart driver and just starting to go back to the racing

Need help with car setup I am happy to help

You are a professional racer and didn't realize that disconnecting a vacuum line from a solenoid was going to cause a leak?

When you remove engine subsystems, you need to think about what the part was doing and how it was doing it.
There are several interdependent systems on the RX-8 and very little fat.
Simply unplugging things will **** it off.

Well, then stop unplugging things!
Especially if you are going to run to the boards with your hands over your head screaming "help help!".
Be methodical.
