!!Please Help --- Car won't crank after flywheel/clutch install

Hi everyone,

I'm sorta at a loss here and have been googling for awhile now trying to figure this out.

So a couple months ago my clutch went. Sadly due to work and other stuff I finally just got the flywheel and clutch installed and put everything back together last night.

My buddy was putting the starter back in and accidentally reversed the positive and negative on it. So when I went to connect the battery that screwed some stuff up. Put a new starter on and today a new battery. Not sure if that would have had any other impacts.

When I try to start it does not crank. I'm gonna see if I can post up a video on youtube if I can manage to get it off my phone.

Any help is appreciated, been wanting my car back for awhile now and it is so close.

Any ideas?

With any luck you have just blown a fuse . Check all the fuses including the big one on the battery .

Worst case you have fried the ECU which will be expensive .

Yea I'm gonna go check those after work. Checked most of them though and they were ok.

I have also noticed clicking noises which sound like they are coming from the doors? Could this be like a key fob, security lockout type deal you think? That's sort of the path I've been going down. That or the negative battery cable needing to be replaced.

That's just a terrible connection at the battery.

The lights all going out are the giveaway, dash lights should all stay on while you crank.

Tighten the poles properly.

I hope you are right. That is the first thing I'm gonna be checking. Should know in about 2 hours. I hate the fact that all this happens after i did my first clutch/flywheel job. I knew it seemed too easy I also know it is likely something dumb which kills me.

Still same issue. The terminals are tight and just for the sake of grins i bought some new terminals. Maybe a bad ground somewhere?? Not sure. My key unlocks, locks and pops the trunk so I don't think it is that either. All my lights and accessories work.

Pull your IGN KEY fuse.

I blew that one 7 times doing my clutch replacement because I wired the neutral switch wrong and it was shorting the line, which passes through that fuse. The fuse being dead prevented other important bits needed to start the car.

Might be a long shot but check and see if the clutch pedal switch is being tripped. When my clutch pedal snapped and the engagement point moved I couldn't get it to start because the clutch pedal wasn't pressing that little plunger. Same symptoms as in your video.

If the dash lights go out, it's a lack of 12 volt power.

Nothing else.

I had to pull the trans. It was the key way on the essentric shaft. It didn't fit properly into the new flywheel. So it appeared tight but really the back end of the key was buckling up behind the flywheel. It wasn't on far enough so the pressure plate rubbed up against the bellhousing when the starter tried to crank it. Put it all back together and it works. Grinded down the key a little bit and fit like a charm.

Now what I am noticing is that when the car is cold it doesn't want to go into gear. Couple times yesterday I really had to hammer it in at a few lights even after it had warmed up. I'm thinking maybe trans fluid?? Gonna change that here in a few hours. Any other thoughts on the cause of that? It isn't a constant problem after being warmed up, but it is constant when i first start the car it will not engage.

You need to adjust the clutch pedal - see manual for instructions.

Wow - the flywheel thing is something we would never have picked .

Sweet I will take a look at that tonight. Yea the last thing i was thinking was that key way or whatever its called was the culprit. Just proves every last tiny detail matters. Such a small piece at the middle of it all.

You should have changed your gear oil on one of the tranny drops...
Actually you have to drain your tranny before you drop it any way as the oil will leak out the back end. Unless you plugged it?
