PIE adaptor shuts off radio every 30 seconds...

Back story: had my pie adaptor for about 6 months now, love it. Both parts from www.mazdaparts.com (P.I.E. MAZ/PC-ALP Aux Input Converter & RCA input wire) When i intially installed I had to disconnect the battery to get it to work.

Current day: I had the car at the dealer last week for an 02 sensor to get replaced under warranty. Well the tech called me about the codes and stated that there was a code recorded saying that my battery was disconnected in the past. I told him about the mp3 pie adaptor, he said ok, no big deal, fix the 02 sensor under warranty and I didn't have to pay for anything.

NOW.... i've driven the car about 5 days since having it back from the dealer and the 5th day I noticed that when I go to play my mp3 player, the radio says "EX" like it always had in the past, and music comes out, but after exactly 30 seconds the radio shuts off complete.

The fm works, the am works, my single in dash CD player works, but when I hit my cd button a second time to get it to "EX" for the mp3 player I will only have 30 seconds till the radio power shuts off.

Any ideas??? i'm thinking about just trying to reverse install everything again (including disconnecting the battery again) and see if the problem remains.

Simple fix: use the disc up/down buttons until the display reads EX1. Problem solved.

I just recreated your issue in my 8.

I used the up/down disc buttons to get to the flashing EX2 display. After 30 seconds, the head unit shuts down.

To clear this I:
-turned the head unit on
-used the up/down disc buttons to cycle thru until EX1 was flashing on the display
-used the mode button on the steering wheel to cycle thru all of the modes once, then settled on EX1

This cleared the issue and I was able to listen to my XM and Zune with no problems.

I had this problem some months ago and it was frustrating as hell. I thought I found the answer on this site, but i just ran a search and came up empty.

I seem to remember that the display did not flash when I was having my problem.

Hope some of this helps.

Good luck.

glad to hear you got things straightened out. I know I was ready to rip out the whole thing after going through that for a week.

I don't have any plans on being in NJ any time soon, so instead of buying me a beer... next time you're out, buy somebody a drink that looks like they could use one. Mark it down as a rotary act of kindness.
