The P2259 and your engine going into 'limp mode' are not related at all. How many miles does your car have? Use the SEARCH option with key words: LIMP MODE. It will yield you further answers to your issue.

2259 is just for emission purposes. so it does not affect your performance, it sounds like either ur cat is clogged, or ur engine is going south (or both)

51,000 miles of what kind of care?. Did you put all 51,000 on the motor?. If you didn't put all the miles on then unless you got it from a friend you know well, the motor could have a failing cat due to many reasons including but not limited to over pre mixing. The over premix will kill a cat, or or or. ?. My 8 has 84,000 on it now and still on oem cat and I premix. My 8 is a 2004 84,000 miles. No winter driving. I premix 1/2 oz per gallon. Change syn oil every 4,000 mile now.

i just get a little paranoid of cooling system air pockets with these cars on older engines. also saves a little time draining and topping off the system.
Done and Done. I just removed the bracket for the A/C line, and the strut support bar, and was able to work it out. it helped to make a costume pry bar out of an old screwdriver, to back the solenoid out after un-hinging the base clip. Hardest parts were feeling for the locking clips on the connector and the base of the solenoid.
Thanks for the insight. saved me time and effort.

regards.

Using this thread and a UIM removal DIY I was able to troubleshoot this code very easily. With the UIM off I was able to pull the solenoid and test it with 12v. It tested good, so I checked the wiring. It seemed solid enough. I cleaned the connections and sprayed with electrical cleaner, as well as adding dielectric grease.

That seemed to do the trick. No more code.

Thanks everyone.

+1

unfortunately in almost all cases if you get a fault code for any of the 3 solenoids you should just replace the solenoid the code is pointing to. testing them with the car cold usually results in a passing test, only to fail when the engine is fully warmed up.

many people complain about this, cleaning the terminals is a futile effort for the code to simply return later. been there done that, lost some skin, sweat and blood only to wind up replacing the POS solenoids anyways.

Hey guys, I got Code P2259 this morning and I remembered someting about that code so I called my dealer and indeed almost a year ago they changed the Air solenoid valve. So I called them and they said that if it's the same valve Mazda will cover it but if it isn't then I will have to pay $115 for the diagnostic plus repairs ($437.50). The Tech told me that code can be any of the 3 solenoid valves: Air solenoid, SSV solenoid, or VDI solenoid. Is this true?

I searched the forum and it looks like each solenoid valve has it's own trouble code, as:

P2259- Air solenoid
P0661- SSV solenoid
P0076- VDI solenoid

Am I correct? on Sep. 13 it will be the end of the warranty to cover the Air solenoid valve but I don't know if I should risk it and pay ove $400 if they tell me its another valve when I'm only getting code P2259 and I can fix it myself but if it's under warranty then they should cover it. So my question again is, does trouble code P2259 triggers all 3 solenoid valves?

Thanks in advance.

Then let them fix it, its either solenoid, wiring, or worst case the ecu.

Unless they damaged the wiring last time, the solenoid is a fairly durable part, u probably got **** luck thats all

Are you thinking that it might not be the Air valve then?

assuming it is the same code, yes take it back and have them warranty the part.

the code is 2259 for the air solenoid though, not 2559. since there is no code 2559 i figure you meant it is the same one.

IE Air Solonoid

200m Model showing ' check engine' . Brought it to lcoal Mazda Dealer , error 2259, air solonoid . They wanted over € 400 to supply & fit . Bought 1 on the net for 30 , fitted it but ' check engine ' light remains on .
Do I need to bring it back to the dealer for a reset ?

Apologies , if this is the wrong thread / forum

you can drive the car a few cycles to see if it resets itself or have the code cleared with an OBDII scanner.

if it returns immediately then the part is likely faulty or the wires pulled out of the connector which is also relatively common if you yank on the wires versus the actual plug.

also be sure you swapped the correct solenoid, the air solenoid is the one on the top backside of the plenum.

Just unplug the battery, step on brake for 20 seconds, reconnect battery.

for some reason, the code doesn't go away on it's own sometimes, so fastest way is the one I said above.

Yeah just reset it.

For me I believe I cleared the code with my scanner and it never came back. I think it came up twice then after clearing it those 2 times it just went away? I still bought the valve and I have it ready for when the code pops back up.

Good luck, it could be just a glitch like my car?

Huge thanks to Grace Excel. Just followed his pictorial, and replaced the solenoids in my '04. Took me perhaps three hours total, but it's the first time I've ever done more than add oil to a car. Fun, educational, and the car runs much better now. (The VDI solenoid was dead.)

Did not noticed the last post was 5-27-2014 so had to edit it and hopefully someone here take their time to help me out. Anyway, I followed the DIY, replaced the solenoid, put everything back together, started the car and check engine light still on. I then drove it to auto zone about two mile from my house, had them check the fault and its still p2259.

Make sure your connector/wiring is ok.

The first Rx8 is over 12 years old , and after fixing couple dozens of them, I noticed some of the Engine Harness starting to fall apart.

and make sure you plug it into the right slot.

oh last but not least, new parts CAN fail right out of box. so u better check.
