JP Engine rebuilt

Had my engine rebuilt. Sounds good. Only problem now I was told is that when my Cooling fan goes to turn on if shuts of my engine. Was told that it may be a shortage in the fan somewhere and I should have the cooling fan replace. Can anyone clarify this and what is going on?

I got my solenoid out (thanks so much for the informative hints and pictures!), but it tested fine at room temp (i will try heating with a hair dryer next). I want to inspect my wiring tomorrow, and do a voltage check.

If i key the ignition to "ON", should i see 12V at the connector? Is this a valid way to check the integrity of the harness / connector?

UPDATE:

- Wiring was fine, I peeled back the harness to inspect for breaks, but there weren't any. I got +12V at each socket when the ignition was keyed to "ON"
- I think it was corrosion / high contact resistance. I used a small screwdriver and some fine sandpaper and sanded the contacts on the relay, and then I plugged/removed the electrical socket multiple times to clean out the socket, and Voila, CEL is gone for a few days now with no resetting of the ECU.

I would've made a new thread, but I just joined, and need a bit of insight on a problem. I've got a 2004 RX-8 Auto with 71k miles. So far, I got these codes:
P0661- intake manifold tune valve control circuit low B1
P0410- SAI system fault
P2259- air system control "B" circuit low
Pending code:
P0076- in valve control solenoid circuit low bank 1
The engine loses power at 6000 rpm and the CEL flashes.
I'm new, and I have read the rules, but I apologize in advance if I have missed something.

Thanks, but I couldn't exactly find what I was looking for. Since the power steering keeps turning on and off, I'd wager the problem to be the harness.
Edit: I thought the power steering and the engine harness were the same, I'll clean the connectors and see what that does.

If you change the solenoid, it should clear both codes. I will update the pictures for the DIY I posted in this thread.

2009?

I'm sure this is my stupidity but I'm always unsure looking up parts. Is the part numbet referenced in the thread the same for 2009? I've seen it listed as 2004-2008 and 2004-2011. Is it also best to replace the plug too?

How do you replace the Harness to the air solenoid? After a P2259 code

I just bought a an 04 RX8 with a motor that has 200 miles on it. The other day it threw a P2259 code. I just took the UIM off and replaced the air solenoid. Put everything back together and drove it. When it started it still smelled rich so I figured I might get the CEL back and of course I did. I saw that someone said if it's not the solenoid it's the Harness. I asked the dealer about that and he said I would need to buy a whole Harness. Is there a way to fix the old one? What do I do now. Thanks, Pat

this thread discussed it being many things from cleaning the plug contacts, making sure you replaced the correct solenoid, making sure you put it back together correctly, etc. More importantly, it needs to be properly diagnosed, which requires someone with the proper electrical troubleshooting skill, tools, and repair knowledge. Replacing the entire engine harness is a difficult, expensive job. It's definitely the last thing you'd want to do rather than making a repair.

P2259 rx 8

Thanks for the response. I definitely want to repair first before replacing the whole harness. Trust me I am smart enough not to go there. Teknic said in the first part of the thread that it has been his experience that you have a bad solenoid or a bad Harness and that 70% of the time It's the Harness. I am asking how do you troubleshoot the Harness? Yes I cleaned the contacts and purchased a new solenoid before checking to see if the original was bad which was impetuous and dumb I know. Now I am going to have to pay by either taking it apart again or taking it to the dealer ad getting raped which I would like to avoid. The job is a PITA. (To remove replace the UIM that is) I replaced the top solenoid with the blue connector per the thread. The way I read the thread it would give me another code if one of the bottom two had failed is that not correct? I am trying to figure out where to go next. Thanks, Pat

P2259 rolled into a P0420

Apparently, the code I threw after replacing the AIR solenoid was a p0420 for catalyst bank 1 output low. So my Harness is fine and replacing the air solenoid fixed the P2259 code. I guess I am going to have to figure out my cat issue now. Thanks, Pat

did you ever find out if the O2 sensor could cause the air solenoid code to come up? i just replaced mine and cleared that but the P2259 came up directly after. tested voltage on and got 12v DC

Solenoid replacement without removing the manifold

I figured out how to change the solenoids in 10-15 minutes with a 9 inch ice pick, a flashlight and zip tie

That seemed to do the trick. No more code.

Thanks everyone.
Hi, how was the sound of the engine when it had cel code, please post a video. Mine has a P2259 code and it sounds like this. Can't upload mp4, search on YouTube.
