P2070

I was hoping I could get some clarification on the CEL P2070 on my 2007 GT

Recently my cel light came on, and a quick check at autozone showed the error to be P2070, intake manifold valve stuck open.

I am unfortunately not exactly a mechanic, nor do I have access to many tools. So I've taken up the task of researching the issue before taking to the dealership. I spent a lot of time in this thread
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/ssv-stuck-open-code-p2070-79403/

I've assumed that the intake valve reffered to in the error is the same as the SSV, or if I'm incorrect, I'm assuming that the SSV is more likely the issue with this error.

With those assumptions out of the way, what I've researched is that most likely the issue is caused by buildup in the valve, it can be fixed by putting cleaner through the tank and driving hard. But it seems most people say this won't be good enough. So I've seen plenty of reports of people removing the valve and cleaning it, fixing the problem. But I don't feel that I'm able to do this, at least not confident enough to be able to correct any potential problems I might encounter.

I also understand that the error could actually be caused by the solenoid as opposed to the actual SSV, which as you may assume, I feel may be over my head. :/

I also remember reading where certain symptoms may or may not be relevant. For example, I've noticed significant loss of power, then a huge power boost at 5k RPM, regardless or whether or not I'm punching the gas. But I was unable to find out whether or not that's important, or if it changes anything I mentioned above.

Sorry for such a long post. Really all I'm asking for is advice. Should I work on this myself, or take it to the dealership? Given my obvious lack of knowledge on the subject.

If you recommend taking it to the dealer, what would you recommend I tell them specifically so they'll know what needs done, and won't just charge me $200 to run cleaner through it (which may not fix the problem) and tell me its not covered by the warranty. Any suggestions or clarifications would be most appreciated.

Thank you very much

here is a thread you should read (if you haven't done so, already) https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-remove-ssv-beta-teaser-video-184663/

Here is another for the engine cleaner https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-mazda-zoom-power-engine-cleaner-engine-cleaning-seaform-142852/

The RX8 engine isn't too hard to work on, but if you haven't tried any maintenance or service in the past, it could be daunting.
Look at the threads I linked, and if you still feel unable to accomplish this yourself, take it to the dealer.

Furthermore, click the "search via google" link in my sig (below) for a useful tool for searching the forum

Thank you for the reply, using the information I found + your info I was able to locate the SSV under the hood. Yes, I know, I'm off to a slow start

I couldn't reach it to try to move it, and I didn't have any long screwdrivers or anything available, but I did rev up to about 7k rpm and a coworker confirmed that the valve was getting vacuum, and it appeared as though the lever was trying to move but was stuck. (I do not know if it makes a difference that I was in neutral vs actually driving)

I also found information showing that the SSV should open at like 3500 rpm on up. Which to me would explain why there's a large power loss until 5k+ assuming that the extra pressure eventually forces the valve open, I would then feel that extra power kick in all at once.

Anyhow thanks again for all the help, I'll just explain what I've found to the dealer and see if they'll do warranty work. I'm not going to pay them just to run cleaner through the thing if its not going to actually fix the issue

The other thing you could try doing is checking the local forum for your area to see if there's someone who would be willing to help you with the cleaning of the SSV.

That way you save money, get to learn how to work on your car, and know the job was done right the first time.

BC.
