P0302 please HELP!!! HELP!!!

Hi People.

I need some help with the current situation.

here is my car
2004 RX8 GT with BHR ignition solution.

today on track day, I threw a CEL P0302 at about 7k RPM. The light flashed and stayed on.
Some loss of power under hard pull at more than 6k.
Drove on for another lap before I stopped due a red flag in front of me.
Drove the car home on the highway without problem.
No problem with ideling or any noticeable difference at daily drive.
I didn't try pulling the car hard after that.

What is the most likely problem here??
-ignition?? coils, plugs, wires are about 4 years old.
-compression?? Have never had a compression test
-gas pump?? replaced about 6 years ago due to stupid dealer messing with me.
-Never had problem with MAF or O2 sensor.
-full tank of gas

Never had this problem during daily driving unless i kept on pulling hard in third gear on highway. (so 7k RPM for prolonged time)

do you recommend keep on driving it? or is it an ASAP situation.
Please help. I hope I don't lose compression. I love this car.

A flashing CEL is always a misfire.

Have you gone through this thread? https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...t-here-222280/

Yes I have.
But I believe I am not the only one to threw a P0302 on the track.
I would love to hear some input from those who did and what did they do to make it go away.

Thanks

302 is rear, however don't get hung up on that. There are many reasons for a misfire, and most of them are not rotor specific, so it's pure chance whether it will throw 301 (front) or 302 (rear) or 300 (random). The only way I would pay attention to front vs rear in trying to solve it is if it kept re-appearing and was ALWAYS the same rotor, like 5+ occurances all on the same rotor without anything on the other.

I'm not sure how to answer that. No, you aren't the first one to get a misfire. In fact, so many people get misfires that it has a whole thread dedicated to all the possible causes, how to troubleshoot each cause, and how to fix it.

Do you not believe the thread and want people to repeat the contents of the thread in this one for you with their causes and their solutions? (all of which are in that thread)

Thanks RIWWP.
I am asking about about the front vs rear rotor is because that it could be caused by some damage on my BHR system.

the coil that is the most anterior has a supply wire that goes into it before going out to the plug wire.
That wire was rubbing against my belt and some copper is showing.

Is that the coil responsible for the rear rotor??

Yes, that connects to the upper plug on the rear rotor.

And yes, if you have exposed wiring on your coil harness, that definitely needs to be fixed, even if that isn't causing the problem. But it easily could be causing the problem too, so there isn't much point in trying to troubleshoot anything else until you have the wires fixed.

So I went in and try to remove the wiring on my BHR ignition system.

This is what I found.
So this is the OEM harness correct?? that's damaged...do I now go to mazda and ask them to replace that?

Please RIGHT CLICK on the image and open link in new tab. Thank you

Please help??

What I do next?

You won't have much luck with Mazda.. They will want to replace the whole engine harness

You have a few choices....you can fix the insulation on the wires by de-pinning the connector and using some waterproof heat shrink...and putting it back together again

You also could wire the BHR connector straight onto the wires...and bypass the OEM connector on that coil

You could also get a pigtail off another harness and solder and heat shrink the new wires to the old wires

I likely would have a plug and long enough wires to do option 3 iff you are going to go that way

Personally I would try the de-pin and heat shrink route if the wires are intact and it's just missing insulation

Make sure you zip tie the wires up and out of the way of the belts when you re-install them

Thank you for the input Dan and Charles.
Replacing the whole harness would be crazy (800 USD). I will work on what you said. I hope that solve the misfiring the situation.
