Overheating!

I've been running a SEIBON vented hood for about 2 years now. I don't have any temperature data to say if the hood made a major difference or not. The primary benefits are at low speeds or sitting in traffic (which is where overheating tends to happen).
The stock hood can create a closed system by which temperatures will climb in the engine bay. The vented hood allows the heat to escape but there's no intake effect at higher speeds. Also there's no indication that there's any high pressure zones inside the engine bay to force air to escape through the vents.
Does it help? I think it does. It certainly doesn't hurt.
As for holes in the back of the hood...that's a discussion that's been beaten to death by both sides.

Therefore you are changing the Pressure Zones around the front of car which could effect the volume or air naturally going through the radiator, as the RX-8 book says (or one of them) a lot of work was done by Mazda in this area.
I think if it had any beneficial results Mazda would have done these changes in the Series II RX-8.
They certainly know that excess heat is the enemy of their rotary...

I meant was there a fix on Easy's car? Did it stop overheating?
BTW, I recently changed my coolant, but the manual said to take out the radiator plug, so I did that, but I had no idea where the Engine plug. I read that it said theres about 10 quarts of the coolant system... but dayum when I was filling it up, it stopped at around 7 quarts, so it was basically a WTF.

Don't forget your heater core holds coolant too, not having done mine, on other cars I used to open up the temp control to HOT so the heater tap is Open, so coolant will also drain out from core.
But, you must leave this open when you warm up engine before you drain.

My car will still get hot in the temps we've been having around here lately. Today was cool, only about 112. Compared to the 118 we had a couple of day's ago.
My car runs in the low 200's as long as it's moving above 30 mph. With the A/C on.
If I get into stop and go traffic it will get hot. 220's and above. And don't do any spirited driving that just makes it hotter.
So the best fix is drive with a light foot on the throttle.

Oh ok thanks for the info. And Ash I already knew about that, that's why I said there was a capacity of 10 quarts or however you people say it. Litres FTW!

I usually pick my favorite spots, where I can add speed in open area's with few traffic lights, it is difficult though as my state is "drunk" on speed camera's, fixed camera's, laser guns, camera's on patrol cars, camera's in plain cars parked, stop red light with speed camera's..
Fu**ing Camera's it is BULLSHIT.
Summer time, I still use the same locations, as you know if you do a few changes to red-line you are over state speed laws, so I try an do it around familiar areas and give the car time to cool with slower driving for a few miles, but, this is why you have 'cooling' fans.

I am in the process of making New Oil cooler Vents for the inner guard splash shields..
Got some aluminum mesh and two new splash shields that I will use as standard OEM for Winter, and the opened up set for Summer (with mesh), or when temps get above 25c (80F).
I am going to open up the entire venting area on the black plastic shield and put in the mesh.
Yes, I know that cooling fans are now available, BUT, I am trying this mod....you need to have flow through of air.
It is very easy to change over the shields (summer to winter), only 12 quick release plastic rivets for each side.
Will post pics when I do it.

BLOODY HELL 237 F...boiling point is 212F (100c)!!!, no wonder you guys (we) are cooking our engines!!!..
Do you have AP, can you set your fans to come on HIGH earlier??
No. No second oil cooler, no separate AT cooler.
Of course I have an AP. Had it for over a year now. I have the Mazmart waterpump and thermostat. Have 30% coolant/70% distilled water and Water Wetter. Someday I'll get the BHR AT radiator. Till then I still have warranty.

This really works well and would be a perfect mod to your AT if you only have 1 oil cooler .
For your climate and operating conditions you will need a fan as well . A well known vendor on here makes one LOL

I don't see where you say you tried a WATER radiator in where the 2nd oil cooler would go and fitted a fan to that ......
Way more effective on engine temps than fitting a fan to the oil cooler

I have just cut out the Vent's in the black splash shields (used snips/scissors), will do more later, have not got the motivation, it is freezing cold and wet, windy and miserable Saturday arvo.

i would try to use some plastic thingys like hold the fenders shields in.. (think hot under belly) simple and dont corrode.
i guess i have to figure out where you are in aus.. i know it is winter slowing down in greater aus.
but dont you have a aus = fla section that is zesty year around? if not i finally found a flaw in you country!!!!
