Unhappy OK..This is FREAKY...

Got home from work today, pulled in my drive got out of my car TURNED THE CAR OFF and got out... and heard the car running...I was like WHAT??? I know the cars off, I have the keys in my hand... This was loud, louder than what the engine sounds while running...(like a industrial fan) So I got back in the car and turned the key (not all the way heard a lil'click) and the sound stopped. I tried starting it and all seemed fine. Not handy in mechanic's dept, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Jina

The engine is meant to cool down like that. It's normal. :P

Just your electric radiator fan. Mine's done it a couple times too.

It was probably your radiator fan. They will keep running even after the engine is turned off. I have noticed mine doing this a few times lately. I bought the car in December and hadn't noticed it until May. I guess the temperatures have been rising. Many other cars also do this but I think that the RX-8 fan is noisier than most, especially when heard from outside the car. It really suprised me the first time I heard it also.

Anyway, your car is working as designed.

Don't worry.

if you had the A/C on and it was hot outside the electric fans will run at full speed for a while, they do move a lot of air which results in the noise you heard

also when it runs like that, don't turn the key back on and off, this will stop the fan and it's meant to run it's full duration, that little engine gets hot.
I haven't posted in a while, see we have another female, hope you aren't harrassed too much.

Yep, most cars do this. Just our Rotary purring sounds like an electric motor so it fooled you.

the problem would be when you dont hear the fans
our 1.3L gets very hot, so they may come on in the summer time more often.
now when you see the car driving away then theres a problem
