Picked up my 8 Yesterday from JPR Imports, again I have to say if your within driving range of his shop dealing with Jim is awesome. You can't go wrong dealing with a rotary fan and a shop owned by a RX-8 driver. One photo is my old block, the other is Mazmart Rebuilt with their water pump. The ZIP file HERE
has more photos, the interesting part will be when the block gets back to Mazmart.

Check the oil cooler reservory, the plastic cover could be hitting the cooler and sand it little by little. Thats what happend to me.

Anyone ever figure out what it was?
Same issue here I am convinced it is my front main seal, just no idea how to do it myself. :c
