not sure what caused it
yesterday on my way to work i startede smelling antifreeze pulled over and also noticed my batt light was on. of course i shut the car off right away and popped the hood. after it cooled a bit i started looking around for what went wrong. turns out my alt froze up and shreaded the belt which explains the symptoms. what i dont know is if the alternator bearings failed or if it was a pully problem. btw i have unorthodox racing ud pully set. besides rubber in the pully grooves of the water pump and ecentric shaft which was cleaned out they seemed fine. the alt pully was pretty much siezed to the shaft and yes when i installed them i used anti seize. but after i removed the alt pully the back of it looked like it came into contact with the alternator case and it was a little chewed up. i had to use the normal pully on the new alt to get my car going again which i did on the side of the road (sucked) i was only 4 miles from home. any thoughts? also whats the best way to clean any left over antifreeze and pieces of rubber from my engine bay? thanks
