I do not doubt it's something small. I could just about guarantee it. Problem is I have no reliable shops or anyone that knows these cars well enough to go through such a modified vehicle. Plus, whatever it is, is not showing up on a smoke test or even to someone who rebuilt the whole motor

I noticed at WOT fuel pressure drops to 52-53 psi. And the goes back to 55-56 while crusing. Is that considered too low for WOT at high rpms?

You can answer that through AFR logs. The question is how consistent is it? Unless it's always changing all over the place I'd say it's a little low and might indicate an issue, but otherwise if it's consistent then just a bit weak.

Is there a way that I can view the logs if I record them with the cobb? Sure I could look at the AFR and tell you what it is, but that sounds very inconsistent and unreliable. If the fuel pressure was too low, is the fuel pump itself what's needed to be replaced or would cleaning the sock etc help pressure. Since I've gotten the car back I was told to premix straight in the gas tank. I could imagine if it was already dirty, oil would not help flow.

Yes, they save to the Cobb and just transfer them to your PC and then upload them to : datazap.me | Fast, Free, Interactive Datalogs

Under the options tab just select RPm and AFR's.

Great news, had Mazda do a second compression test since I was there again. We have gone from 8.something on each face to a solid 4.3 average or soon all 6 faces. I emailed the company and they are stating I likely have sagged apex seals due to my tune being too lean. It's on a base tune since the Cobb was uninstalled. Anyone have any insight on this

WTF. It is literally impossible to lean out and damage an NA Renesis. And it was running rich, not lean. It's a truck load of bullshit.

How did they make that assessment and what's it based on? Sounds like total BS to me.

I made multiple WOT dyno runs @ 14+ AFRs in the spring 2007 and 6 months later gave Cobb my car to beta test and use for the Accessport in 2007, which when they gave it back to me in early 2008 it dyno'd 220 rwhp on their AP tune.

If your car was leaner than that it would have been pinging with misfire codes and CEL like nobody's business

Also, when the Cobb is uninstalled it replaces the AP tune with the original OE Mazda tune that it copied and stored when it was installed.

First thing I would ask is what apex seals were used.....

if you have a leaky injector it can wash out the oil film and result in low compression. ...but usually only on one rotor...the one with the leaky injector.

It is unlikely that the MM tune would have been any where lean enough to cause damage to the apex seals. Especially with the O2 sensor telling the ECU that it was rich.

Is the O2 sensor working properly?

As far as I know the car itself is fine but it is now just running on low compression. It was stuck running rich due to that reason as well. He claims that first my apex seals may have sagged, then that MM tune is somehow ruining the car with the Cobb not installed, and lastly that the electrical system under the dash (security system) that was removed during the engine rebuild and not reinstalled in the car is causing electrical issues. The last one is my favorite.

On top of that, he's not happy with the fact that I told him that the throttle body he put in doesn't work either. I originally switched to a different one because it was significantly cleaner than my original. Well that one took a crap no surprise (it was used) and he gave me one off his shelf he had laying around. It worked for a while. Then the car wouldn't idle with it. Swapped to my original and it idled. Oh, and that's MM's tunings fault it wouldn't idle too. Not the TB. I wasn't charged so I shrug my shoulders but this guy will point fingers at anyone and anything.

There is no CELs other than P0420 for being catless. I never saw any issues with the O2 malfunctioning.

So they're refusing to do anything about it?

Sounds like it is going to end up that way at this rate. The car will be taken to them as soon as I find some time to take the drive there. I'm still busy with work and searching for a new job.

Still didn't answer the Apex seal question 😎
