OP seems to think new plugs resurrected his engine and doesn't want to acknowledge that there actually could be a problem. Just finding the oil cap seal in a random place doesn't give evidence the previous owner was a moron. He at least had enough sense to notice something wasn't right and have it checked out and then actually was honest enough to tell OP when he bought it that the apex seals were blown.
Sure the previous owner may not have been knowledgeable and was mislead by a dealer, selling the car on the cheap to OP who in turn was smart enough to identify some minor issues and repair the car. In that case kudos to OP.
However the more likely scenario is OP is being a little arrogant and placing incorrect blame on the previous owner. Then he's sinking pointless time and money into an engine that's dead or dying all the while having direct knowledge he was told it was dead. In that case then it's karma biting back for bashing the previous owner and acting like he's mechanic man.
FYI, my original response to this post was in reply to what i thought was a light hearted rhetorical joking question. I didn't realize at the time OP's pure intention was to bash the previous owner completely while trying to paint himself a car repair god.
