"Multiple Random Misfires" CEL code - replaced coils/plugs - still no help

So I've gotten the "Multiple Random Misfires" code before and replacing the spark plugs and/or coils has always fixed it in the past.

This time it's a bit different. First of all I replaced the engine just last week and all the plugs, coils and wires are new. Unlike before when the flashing check engine light and misfire code would occure during hard driving this time hard driving (flooring to redline) does not seem to trigger the code and flashing CEL. This time the CEL will start flashing during regular cruising conditions - such as just driving down the freeway at a constant rate. I replaced the plugs, wire and coil AGAIN yesterday just in case and still no help.

Through of all this the motor seems to run just fine... but the occasional flashing CEL and misfire code has me annoyed and worried.

Any ideas?

- John

Check / clean the ESS
Reset the stored values.

Yes, the 20 quick pumps to the brake pedal method (reset the crank position memory) seems to help a lot. You need to do this anytime you rebuild the motor or even remove the crank angle sendor or pulley.
