More second gear issues.

Anything much over 6k rpm and shifting in to 2nd gear grinds super super bad, even with the clutch all the way in. I can get a good deal since by buddy works at a car shop. They'll replace the synchros and or gear for a lot less than Mazda will.
I'm just hoping that someone here can tell me for sure that it's the issue, and possibly save me some diagnostics cost. Or if there is anything I can have adjusted rather than be replaced..
It's rather embarrassing cruising along aaand second gear goes KGERRRRRRRRRRRRRR
'05, all stock, 53k miles.

It may very well be the transmission, also check your clutch pedal though and weld it while you're at it.

Welll I mean there's nothing else I can think it could be other than the gear or synchros... I was just hoping to know if someone had any specific insight or advise.

The general advice is to move to the s2 transmission and final gear when possible.
Our transmission is not bulletproof and requires gentle\smooth operation to last.
That's where welding the pedal comes into play. Our clutch pedals are weak, flex and tend to crack over time. This may lead to incomplete gear disengaging during fast shifts, accelerating the wear rate.

Rebuilding the transmission is a pain in the ***, too. It requires a couple of very useful tools and a lot of experience, make sure that "your buddy that works at a car shop" has the required experience.

I've owned RX7s, but honestly don't know much about my 8 mechanically...
Where on the peddle does the cracking and flexing occur?
And What's an s2 transmission vs what's in it now?
I've only put about 2,500 miles on my 8.

As far as rotary specifics, I'm unsure of the shop's overall experience, though I know there is at least some. Other than that, the shop has been there for many years and the mechanics are all legitimate. Correct me if I'm wrong but is a transmission job/swap for my 8 really much different than any other?

Both the clutch pedal and transmission issues (grinds, s1 vs s2 etc) have been thoroughly discussed. A search will provide you with all the answers. If you still can't find what you're looking for then i'm sure that somebody will chime in with his knowledge!
