Key fob won't program

I recently purchased a fob for my 04 8 and it was the wrong model so I resold it. Then I purchased 2 of the correct model (confirmed with dealership) to program. The car goes in to the program mode but when I click the fob button twice to program it, it still won't work. I already replaced the batteries so that's no it. Please help!!!

I think the 04 models have to be hooked up to the machine at the dealership. I could be mistaken but, I believe it's correct. They may do it for free if they are nice.

In order to program the key FOBs yourself, you have to have 2 in hand and already paired. That means that you can program a 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc... youself, but if you only have 1, you CAN NOT pair the 2nd yourself.

However, you don't have to go through a dealer. Call around local locksmiths. They often purchase the software to code different makes of cars, and you might have one that bought Mazda's software. They typically charge 20-40% of what a dealer will for the service, since they want to undercut the dealer's business and they usually aren't trying to price gouge for a 5 minute service that takes no effort.
