Jangling noise for 2-3 seconds on pull-away / re-accelerate

Hi guys

My '04 RX8 has started making a jangling noise (for want of a better way to describe it) when I pull away / re-accelerate after braking. It's coming from the back of the car (not under the bonnet)... possibly the exhaust but it's hard to tell because it only happens when the car is moving! It only lasts a couple of seconds and isn't too loud. It almost just sounds as if some small metal part is is loose.

Does anyone else have experience of this problem and have any idea what it might be?

Thanks

Jez

Search for MIAC here. Marbles in a can. 99% chance your catalytic converter has self destructed. They crumble, break into pieces which get blown down the exhaust and trapped in places like the muffler. Then they rattle and you hear it.

Thanks. I've had a read about MIAC and it seems most people have it at high revs only... also the sound is a lot worse than mine (comparing mine to
).

I didn't see anyone talk about catalytic converters when referencing MIAC. Is this a separate issue? I'm not a techy at all... is there a way I could check this for myself?

Cheers

Trust me. From your description, it's the cat. Pull your midpipe and look down there. Bet you'll see the honeycomb in pieces. The problem is the pieces rattling are probably already in your muffler.

Just another possibility - you may have a problem with the input bearing in the tranny (assuming your driving a stick). When these go they can make a jangling noise (a higher pitched kind of sound than classic MAIC sound - I have had the pleasure of hearing both ). If it is this, your likely to start noticing other issues with shifting really, really soon.
