I turned it off and it didn't stop!
Or at least that is what I think happened to my 2004 RX8. After almost an hour of city traffic on a hot day I pulled into my garage and turned the key off. I thought I heard the car still reving but it could have been a very loud fan. I opened the door of the car and got out to confirm it was coming from under the hood. I got back in an turned the key to "on" -- I did not start the engine. The noise stoped. I turned it off and everthing seemed fine.
This is my first rotary engine and I have had it for only a few weeks. Any of you more experience folks know what happen?

rotaries run a ll hotter than normal. this one too is my first rotary, congrats my car does the same thing when im driving home, its just a fan kicking in. my brothers SVO used to do the same thing. I noticed that when you turn the key on, yeah the fan will shut off. the fan also shuts off when the engine temp cools as well, no biggy =)

Answer to the Question
First, don't worry. Ever since the auto manufactures went to electric fans mounted to the radiators first as supplemental fans to the belt driven fans now exclusively electric radiator mounted fans, there is a thermal conductor or thermostat type switch on the fans that keep the fans running on the car until the coolant drops in temp. This process happens on all car similarly equipped with eclectic fans, not just the RX8. That ends up cooling the radiator after the engine is off. Just a automatic temp control system. After awhile you get used to it and once you get to understand the reason behind it more you begin to appreciate the process more.

we will and then it'll stop until next spring/summer. but we have something to look forward to in the fall when the posts start again about "my TPMS light was on this morning. i drove for 10 minutes and then it went off. when i got to work i checked and the pressures were fine. is there something wrong with my TPMS" although its all probably my fault. i spend too much time posting and not any time fixing the FAQ. this is as far as i have gotten on the FAQ-
1. RTFM
2. RTFM
3. RTFM
4. RTFM
5. Search

not bashing him really- just letting off some angst over the same questions all the time. I mean this question you dont even have to use the search function for right now. just scroll down thru the threads and there are at least 2 others easily found.

Sorry if asked a question I should not have. I have read the manual and understood it could have been the fan. I did look for other threads that might have answered the question but I did not find them -- maybe I don't know how to do a reasonable search here. There was much more noise that I expected and I was worried about the car.
I joined this group with two goals. One was to learn about my new car. I will continue to work on that but mainly by "lurking". I had also hoped to find a group of people that might accept a new person who did not know as much as most of the rest of the group. It looks like I will fail there.

didn't mean to come across as being unfriendly either, but the link I copied where we asnwered the exact same question two days before you asked yours was only about ten posts down from the top of the page. You would have had your answer almost immediately.
Just imagine people asking the same question over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over .... I think you get the idea. For the regulars it starts to wear thin after awhile.
Just be glad nobody told you to Read The -------- Manual , which this is from:
