rX-8 Constant problems would you trade-in

I posted on the forum when my mother was having problems in the past ( https://www.rx8club.com/search.php?searchid=555473 ) She has had her car in for warranty repairs about 4-5 times since she has owned it 36,000 miles of driving. today yet againanother failure, the speedomter is reading 20 mph when she is at a stop. Just got it back about a month ago from a complete work over , lots of updates, new battery, new wires, plugs, etc just about every update they could do. She loves the car but now is feeling ripped off, they do fix it but it is very inconvenient to be in the shop every other month. There is also a noise when at an idle they say its normal , but it was not there two months ago, used to purr like a kitten barely could hear it was running. What would you do? Trade it in cut your loses? Sell it privately? Or keep it and run warranty out.she does have an extended 100,000 mile warranty. At her rate of driving it would be in about 3 years.By then this car may have a bad reputation and be worthless? She takes meticulous care of this car it really looks like it is new , dispite the highway miles.

Yeah I agree, expecially with the extended warranty, use it up! It might be an inconvenience, but at least for me, the car is worth it. I guess its what you get when you buy a first year new car with a radical engine redesign and more electronics than the space shuttle.

My plan is to hold on to my baby and hopefully by the time the warranty and financing is done, I'll be able to afford another car, and work on turning the 8 into a club racer. As a race car, I won't care if I break something and take a few weeks to learn how to fix it. I think with the right tools (and swapping out the ecu for a programmable one) the 8 should be pretty easy to work on. Heck the engine only has 3 moving parts

Sounds like a PCM/software problem. Could be the instrument cluster too, I suppose.

And BTW, you never did get back to us with the result of your "steering issue".

The steering issue was resolved. Once she called corporate they took the car back in it spent about 2 weeks there . I do not have the list of work done but the steering failure has not happened since . Most recently it went in twice in the past week because of the check engine light, they told her it was caused by fuel exhaust building up and tripping a sensor. They replaced the sensor. The car sems to be in the shop more then it on the road since January of 2005. Iam going to get a complete of work that was done and post later
