I love this model (looks) but!!!!
I drive a MX-5 (2001) and had a 1990 Miata also. I have been lusting after
a RX-8 but after reading this forum and other Mazda forums have come to the
realization that the RX-8 has to many issues to suit me!!!! I will have to
buy another MX-5, more likely a PRHT newer model. I am dissapointed about
the RX-8 and I am glad I did alot of research on it before buying one. I feel
sorry for people that don't check in to this model before buying one and then
end up with the grief they are seeing.....A shame....

I know its not all units but enough to worry me about letting the wife drive
it, knowing she would forget about the warming period required, for that
matter I wouldn't be surprized I would do it myself. I have to move cars around
as I have a car port here in Florida and when we need to use one car or the
other we have to shuffle cars, so they would only run 30 seconds or so. That
would cause the flooding problem with the 8. I just can't justify the chance
of problems with the amount of $$$ these thing go for! I love the looks on the
8 and again I am disappointed.

the 8. I came here to read up about the model before putting out my $$$$ on
one. Iam glad you haven't had the problems I have been reading in your (YOUR)
forum about the 8. And like I said I also mentioned that I know that everyone
isn't having problems, but for me? I don't want the uneasy feeling of when
or where the problem was gonna if at all raise its head.....

I can understand your fear but really....flooding isnt that big of an issue, there are DIY procedures to deflood the engine and if you only have the car on for a short amount of time like 30 seconds, if you rev it to 4k-5k for a few seconds it helps to quickly burn off the excess fuel fuel that may cause flooding.
Not to mention you live in florida were most of the time out of the year your not working with a freezing cold engine which will cut down on the chance of flooding.
Last. Flooding isnt really so much the car as the driver. Now I know you said your afraid your wife would forget but to be honest ive forgot to warm it up and only move it 5 feet before with no ill side effects. Grant it Ive only put 20k or so miles on my 8 but Ive never had an issue with flooding.
At least your sticking with a mazda! so zoom zoom
EDIT:
depreciation is worse than most cars in the 8 and maintenance is a little higher (but its not bad at all). Very fun car to drive

everytime I went to start the car. I wish I could find away around that
feeling, cause like I said, I love the looks or the car. I have test driven one,
The Salesmen never mentions the flooding problem until I questioned him about
it. He also said its an isolated problem, but again a reliability (security) feeling
I would always have in the back of my mind.
Edit:
I will keep reading this forum and when I am ready, before I drop the hammer on another Miata I will drive another 8 and after
some more miles on the lastest model * might feel more easy about the 8. Keeping my fingers crossed.

that seems to help. My concern is(again old age)a brain fart would cause me
or the wife to forget the warm up period and then BANG there's the problem.
We travel the Country a lot, visiting the Kids (46 and 47, yeah Kids LOL) and
just can't take a chance.
I had the same problem with wanting a XK8 Jag. I was gonna get one of
those until I read about all the problems they have. and they aren't cheap
to fix. So I guess as long as I can still Zoom Zoom I will at least stay with
Mazda for the foreseeable future.

I just read a Post about "Owners still feeling the Love" and a lot of long time owners
that have had great luck with their units. I am so torn about this. I think if I test drive
another 8 I will be hooked and just roll the dice....... We'll see! LOL If I get in another one
it will probable do the trick. Heheheh

every car has issues if you look deep enough. i assure you the 8 isnt as fragile as it may seem. i track mine and beaten on it for over a 100 000km. i have never had an issue i couldnt fix with a quick read on this forum. dont let little things ruin your enjoyment. but that said if you plan on getting an automatic rx8 prob best you did just get a miata.

Paddle shifters. My Miata is a 5 speed, but I have been thinking of an
auto Mazda cause of the paddle shifters.

just my personal thoughts do not get a rx8 in an auto takes all the fun out of the high reving motor. an NB miata 5sp will be faster and use way less fuel than an auto rx8. make sure you test drive a manual and an auto and make your own mind up.
