just noticed that the HVAC cluster seems to have partially failed.

Buttons no longer light up, but they still work fine. They do what they're supposed to do, turn the A/C on and off, front defroster, recirc, change mode. I can't tell for sure (not cold enough outside) but I think the rear defroster still works too.

The little lights don't come on.

I haven't removed and replaced the radio lately, haven't been messing around in the dash.

Could it be a bad solder joint? Or am I stuck with having to buy a new HVAC cluster?

Ideas?

i had a similar issue a while back and all it that i did to mine was pull the radio and push on the plugs a little. they worked fine after that.

 

Exactly what I would have suggested. If you have removed the radio (or even if you haven't) you may not have pushed them in all the way. But if you hit enough bumps, or just one big one it might have knocked the connection for the lights loose.
