Headlight Auto Level Malfunctioning

My light is on, and I don't even know where to begin looking for problems. I've googled around and searched the forums and found a lot of information regarding fixing the sensor itself, but I was wondering if there are small, stupid things that can cause a malfunction such as loose wires, broken fuses and the like. I was hoping someone could give me a list of things to attempt in the search of fixing this problem without actually digging into the system itself or replacing it all together.

First thing to check would be the sensor on the rear suspension. I've seen a few people here show pics of their broken linkage to the sensor.
