So those readings are bad? What would be the good reading? And anyone in Houston area, happen to know of a shop that cab do compression test on rotary? Mazda is charging me $300+ with tax to do the compression test cuz my car is blue title rebuild.

New motor will give a 8.0 reading on all rotor faces. around 7.5 readings with slight differences are great. Both dealerships that tested my BB04 charged me an hour labor to do the tests (125$ = #1 150$ =#2) Mazda Canada sent me a complete refund check after replacing the engine under the 8years/160k km warranty.

Damn, well Mazda voided all the warranties the car had. I'm still under the 80k miles. But the dealer said they can't do anything cuz the car was in a small accident that just bent the fender and the air bags deployed. So they voidedall the warranties to it. And now they're charging me 300 just for the test. I have 73,8xx. But I'm screwed in other words.

Just throwing it out there

You know there is an app for the RX8 Compression test for normalizing the numbers.

It can't actually measure the numbers but it will normalize the results you get and tell you if they are in spec or not

just say'n

I'm not sure I understand?

I don't know how the code makes it work?

As far as the user interface goes, you enter the RPM and the 3 pressure readings you got.
It normalizes it to 250 rpm

I posted this on another thread that I thought I would share here as well...

I am having the same problem... Called Mazda and talked to a tech there who is very Knowledgeable when it comes to the 8. I explained I have done coils, wires, plugs and decarbonization within the last 10k miles... He told me that it can possibly be the starter (only if it is a reman. not a "Mazda" starter) what happens is the remans are not insulated as well as a "Mazda" starter and the heat effects them. He said even though the engine turns it wont start until its cooled down because the starter is throwing a false code to the crank sensor.
so....When I get out of work I am climbing under to see if I have a reman. starter or not...then...gulp...I will have to get a compression test done.
