Halp! CEL..

Recently bought a 2005 RX8 with 59k miles. Love how the car handles, but I'm having issues.

I had a CEL of P2096, after filling up the tank with gas shortly after purchasing and did the following: changed air filter, changed MAF, gas cap, replaced coils, had the MSP16 done by mazda dealer, and spark plugs. I use 93 octane gas.

The CEL went away, but when I drive the car aggresivelyand then slow down due to traffic or a red light, the engine cuts out. Then I can't start the car unless I wait about 5 to 10 minutess.

Any ideas?

no loss of power.. the P2096 cleared after some basic maintanence..

Oh yeah.. I also used a fuel additive.. Chemtool B-12.. This was about 3 weeks ago. I've re-filled the gas tank many times since. CEL came on before doing anything to the car.

It's just a fuel injector/fuel system cleaner. Same as dumping something like Seafoam in the tank.

Try getting new gas and disconnecting the battery like dozer said. Might as well clean the MAF before you do it anyways. CRC makes good MAF cleaner.

It resets some of the ECU's learned parameters... (like a reboot on a computer) and removes the saved codes that trigger the CEL

It is likely you have a small vac leak....do you have a stock intake?

Yes.. car is completely stock..

I was under the impression of disconnecting the battery and driving while the battery was disconnected..

I have already disconnected the battery to reset ECU... No CELs but if I drive the car hard, the engine cuts off when returning to iddle..

The engine is dying because it hasn't re learned the fuel trims yet... when you reset the ECU you need to drive it normally, meaning below 5k rpms for a couple days before you start beating on it again.

After the ECU was reset, I drove 300 miles. The car was normal and I decided to drive more aggressively. The engine cut out again.. I think it's getting worse because yesterday it cut out when I was doing 70 mph on the hwy..
