Gear changing issues

Recently I'm finding it hard to change gear especially when it's cold, also when changing gear there is some kind of engine jerk, it feels like something isn't connected properly in the linkage or transmission.

Is there anything I can look at such as greasing linkage / gear stick or looking to see if linkage loose?

All help would be great thanks so much!

How many miles? How long since last fluid change? Any aftermarket mods to shifter, etc?

Wild guess on limied info is you might be hitting early stages of an issue with the throwout bearing.

Its a 192 Manual 5 Speed.

Has 65k on the Clock and has no mods what so ever except a de-cat. The previous owner had said it was fitted with a new clutch kit but there was no paperwork provided with that. There is no information on the transmission oil being changed too.

The clutch itself feels fine and pulls strong no slipping its almost like there is a clonk in the engine bay area and jolts the car, yeah its very stiff to change from any gear to be honest.

Its only happened last few thousand miles, I remember i had a similar problem with a renault years ago and turned out to be a "Dogbone" mount underneath the car to the engine and the gear linkage bolt was loose.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you are at 65k without a transmission fluid change(or without knowing if its done) that should be where you start. A lot of people change it much earlier than that. Search around to see what oil most people are using and then change yours.

Have you actually inspected the trans oil yet? If you want to try going the cheap route you could just remove the filler cap and dip a finger in there and see if it looks burnt or bad. Maybe since series 1 rx8s can fill from the shifter you could also dip from there with something? I have no clue on that, but maybe someone can enlighten me.

I think a Syn fluid gives the best feel and you might check the motor mounts for your other problem.

How would i be able to check the tranny fluid inside the gear stick? Where is the easiest place to access it so i can see the colour of it etc.

What about engine mounts could this potentially be a problem for the gear changing?

Well sometimes i hear a little squeak if im not driving and press it but i think thats just normal?

I just never get why every time i change gear it struggles to change and i also get a jolting from the car :/
