Fuel Pump problem?
Fuel Pump problem?
Hey there, I got myself an 05 rx8 and just the other day when I was driving around town at my ussual 3k RPMs my car suddenly stalled. So I turned it back on and got myself home after several more stalls at mid-ranged RPM driving.
I recently started using 2-stroke fuel because I heard somewhere that it was better for the car. So i figured that the 2-stroke fuel was my problem and tried to empty my fuel tank by powering the fuel pump and redirecting the gas to a separate container.
Unfortunately for me the pump was not pouring out any gas. However I could clearly hear that the pump was running. So my question is - Is my fuel pump bad? If so then why does my car run for a short period of time then shut off after driving for a little while?

Did you get any flow at all? What MM is alluding to is that we have a dual sump saddle fuel tank. The pump is in the LH saddle with an additional pickup in the RH saddle. The RH pickup is connect to the internal pump pressure bypass circuit with a siphon arrangement. So the only way to empty the RH saddle is to restrict the output flow enough to engage the bypass and siphon it over into the LH saddle. Otherwise without any backpressure to engage the pump bypass it's possible for the pump to empty the the LH saddle and leave fuel in the RH saddle. Each saddle also has its own level sensor and both signals are combined to provide an overall level reading on the dash gauge. Its all in the service manual and various threads on this forum. If you really want to do your own work you should buy a Mazda service manual.
O_o didnt realize that this was 09 and up my bad :X
Yes
As far as powering the pump I put about 12 volts to the actual pump under the back left seat. And no I did not build any pressure... I am guessing that is where my problem is?
I got flow when I tried to start he car.
Are you saying there is another pump under the back right seat too? Sorry but im a little clueless as to most of what you are saying X_x
Yes

That is obvious. Unfortunately it's not inhibiting from going at it uninformed ....

As far as I know, you have three options. First, replace it with another OEM pump. Second, replace it with a Series 2 (09+) RX8 pump assembly. It has been said that it is a little more robust, however some modification is required. Third, get modified pump assy from BHR. Presently, they put the pump out of the assembly and install a Walbro pump.
All the above options have the positives and negatives. If your interested, I suggest you start searching and reading.
