Just an update, the fuel leak is now fixed after replacing the OEM unit with Delphi FG1250. The Delphi should be considered OEM, including the sticker.

Further, the check engine MIL upon redlining is also gone as well!!! The code was cylinder 1 bank 1 misfire, which plagued the car for a while. Only thing left to tackle is hard to start when engine is warm.

Thankfully I did not have to deal with the 90dg quick connect. The OEM pump had a hairline crack that only manifested after my tinkering.

Having same fuel leak at the fuel pump connector. Checked the o-ring on the hose and looks fine. Checked the male side on the FP and it is very slightly bent towards the back but I looked with a magnifier and don't see anything cracked.
I guess I should order the Delhi replacement at $135 from Amazon.
How hard is the hose to replace?

BTW - These forums are lifesavers and have always saved me a bunch of time.

Not hard to replace. Just be sure to get hose approved to be submerged in fuel.

Be sure to get proper inside diameter and length for your RX8 fuel pump.

Just saw that there is an open recall on this car for the fuel leak.
I'll take it in and see what they replace.

Stealership said the leak wasn't addressed in the recall. They told me it was the fuel line and it would cost me $800 to fix because they had to drop the tank. Charles at BHR said it was most likely the fuel outlet on the pump was cracked. He was right, hairline crack just in front of the retaining clip. So much for expert troubleshooting from the dealer.

I have an 07 and have a leak at the quick disconnect. I've checked the nipple numerous times and can't find a crack. I bought a replacement connector from Dorman, sized 3/8th's of an inch, and it's leaking at the connector and nipple, as if there were no o-ring/seal, but I can see one in there. I then thought that I needed a 5/16ths, but that one is too small to fit.

The Dorman product description stipulate that it was for steel to nylon. Is that my problem? This is the Amazon listing of the connector. Can anyone provide feedback?

So my leak was actually two leaks. One was the fuel pump outlet cracked and was fixed when I replaced the fuel pump. The second didn't show back up until I filled up the car a few weeks later. Luckily, I left the car outside instead of in the garage because a couple of gallons leaked from the fuel pump ring/o-ring and left a huge puddle in the driveway. This is what Mazda is in the process of issuing a recall for. Kudos to Mazda customer service! Even though the car is 13 years old they told me to take it to the dealer and it would be fixed.

jtz54 , the recall is already out and RX8s are getting replacement rings and new added tank insulation, immediately ,if on inspection there is a leak,and later as parts come in, if no leak is found on inspection (as in my RX8's case).

Well, after several different attempts to fix my leak I discovered that I do indeed have a crack on the underside of the nipple. Is it possible to just buy the top of the fuel pump, rather than the entire assembly?

As far as I know only the whole fuel pump assembly is available. Got mine from Amazon for $135. Delphi FG1250.

I took my 2007 rx8 to the mazda here in Mobile, Al and they basically told me their "assesment" showed that my fuel pump was fine. But on the way home my car started spewing gas all over the road so when i got home and looked at it, the 90° fitting was spraying gas at the disconnect. They claimed that it was not part of the recall and had nothing to do with it suddenly doing that after never having more than a faint smell of gas previously. Do you (or anyone else here) know if that quick connect and/or fitting have anything to do with that recall?

The recall for the fuel leak concerns the O-ring on the fuel pump. I had two leaks:


The fuel pump outlet where the hose connects to was cracked. I replaced the fuel pump but had a leak when I filled the tank and that was caused by the threaded ring and O-ring that holds the fuel pump in the tank. This is what the dealer replaced and hasn't leaked since. I suspect your fuel pump outlet nozzle has a hairline crack like mine. I ordered the AC Delco one from Amazon for $135.

That particular fitting isn't part of any recall according to my dealership. Apparently there is an official Mazda notice on that part, so they should check it out with any recall work, but they may or may not choose to replace it under warranty. Apparently I got lucky with that.

A new pump will solve the problem. The quick connect is very rare to have go bad. Mine just got a super small hair line crack and leaked. I got freaked out and took it to my mechanic. We both thought we were going to have to replace the line but luckily I had a brand new pump. I told him to put on the new one and like magic no leak. I inspected the old one and yup a tiny little crack.

Where can I find the green clip that holds it to the fuel pump and the blue clip that goes inside the fuel pump ?
