Fuel line leaking at fuel pump HELP!!
 

My RX8 was smelling like gas. I noticed it was leaking slowly under the car so I took out the back seat exposing the cover to enter the fuel pump. When I took it off I noticed there was gas all over the top of the tank. After examining it closely I noticed that it was leaking when I turned on the ignition where you attach the fuel line to the nipple of the fuel pump. I think the little O ring is not on it. I think the previous owner was doing somethnig with the pump and took of the line and didnt put back on the o ring. I went to the dealer and he said i would have to buy the whole fuel line! I wanted to disconnect the line to see if the o ring was there but I dont know how to take it off.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL LINE FROM THE FUEL PUMP? ALSO DOES THAT GREEN CLAMP LOOK BROKEN?

Man, look at that dirt. It doesn't look broken (kind of hard to tell in a pic though), you likely just need to reassemble and hook it back up.

I should have a line I can steal an O-ring from, or duplicate it for you. Don't want to see your 8 assplode or catch on fire

Can someone please tell me how to release the green clamp to get the fuel line hose off the fuel pump?

Comes off if you carefully twist the green part around the fitting -the green plastic has two little tits that stick thru holes in the black, keeping the fitting on the swaged steel pipe.

Careful, green plastic very snappy!

I had this same problem a few months ago. It's not the line, It's the fuel pump housing. The small 90 degree spout where the line connects to may have a small crack in it. Order a new housing and have it installed and your problems should be alleviated. Hope this helps.

I have a leak between the fuel line and fuel pump fitting. I think the oringinal ring is not in it. I fould the little green o ring next to it when i took off the cover. I am assuming the previous owner took of the line for something and forgot to put it back on. ( I just got the car from auction)

How do you take off the little green clamp?
I have tried twisting the green clamp but i am affraid i will break it? Is this something i should worry about? If you have a video that would help a lot. Thanks

Yes, it MAY break but that IS how it comes off.

I appreciate the answers I have gotten so far, but im sorry it is still not clear to me. Twist the clamp which way? Once i twist then what? What else do i do while twisting the green clamp? Im sorry but it just feels like its not budging and i dont want to break it.

Ok i have loaded some more pictures to help me explain my dilemma. One picture shows a red arrow i drew on the green release band thing. Now do i twist the hose the way of the arrow, or the other way?
Another picture shows a screw driver pointing to a point on the green band. Do i push that part there to release it black hose. I know it has some little nipple things the goes into the line to hold it in place.
And one picture shows the screwdriver pointing to the blueish green thin ring. Do i do anything with that?
I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR A WHILE NOW WITH NO LUCK. A VIDEO WOULD BE NICE BUT I CANT FIND ONE. YOUTUBE ANYONE??

Thats a quick connect flex fuel line, just remove the green clip (twist or pull off) and it should disconnect from the fuel pump. To reconnect just make sure you put the green clip on the fuel line (same position when you pulled it out), and it should just snap in with the fuel pump (push the line into the fuel pump). As long as the line doesn't easily come off, you are golden, some people add zip ties to make sure it doesn't come off.

The screwdriver is pointing at the part of the clip that you have to push and twist back to get the connector off.

First, push the elbow in towards the fuel pump. This will ensure that clip is released from having any pressure on it's locking feature. Twist the green clip around and while holding the clip in the twisted position try to pull the fuel line off. If the fuel line doesn't come off then push it back in towards the pump and continue to twist the clip tab further around and then try to pull the fuel line off again. Keep repeating. At some point you will have it twisted around to the point that the locking device is released and the fuel line comes off

Where can I buy a new housing? Does the green clip come with it? My green clip came right off and that whole area is loose even with it on. Can I disconnect that housing area even at 3/4 of a tank? Do I need to pull out 20A fuel fuse and disconnect battery for any reason?

I know it's an old thread, by this time, you would have figured it out alread; I did this anyway since I am replacing my fuel pump. I stopped filming before I pulled the tube for a second and plugged it back in when I saw fuel leaking out of the tube. I have a little over a quarter of fuel in the tank, but since that line connects to the engine, I was told that it's only a couple of ounces, so grab a long bottle and catch the spill.

Has anyone been able to fix the problem at hand though? 😪😪 lol. I got the clip off and everything, but still leaking after being reassembles. Nothing looks broken. Just can't seem to get it up without leaking a crapton of gas. Any quick fixes by any chance? Thank you.!

If there's still a leak, you have a hairline crack at the neck past the ring where the hose stops. Two choices, change the top part of the assembly or buy a completely new one and replace the whole thing itself.

Here's a video, I didn't figure it out then when I filmed this. Only after when I tried to trim the hose and used hose clamps instead of the factory clips.

Mine was working fine for a couple of years when all of the sudden I found this.

So I swapped the top of the pump with an extra I had lying around. This is how it should be.

That's weird how that curved towards the rear, because the hose pulls towards the front not the rear
