Okay, finally at that point where I have to ask for help. I bought a non-running car (PO said it 'suddenly stalled out and wouldn't restart, dealer said low compression'). I rebuilt the engine and just put it back in, but can't get it to fire up and I'm not exactly sure why. Can smell fuel so I know it's at least getting something, but when I pulled off a plug wire to check spark I got nothing.

I have power to the coils, and I can't know for sure but I put my multimeter on frequency measurement and got some sort of signal from the signal wire. Concluded the coils were original and replaced them with some LS1/D585 coils from the wrecker, but unfortunately I'm still getting no spark.

So, is there anything in the PCM that would prevent the coils from firing while the car is cranking? I scanned it with my OBDII reader but got no codes stored, and I did reset the PCM using the 20 brake tap method. I can also see an RPM readout while the engine is cranking, so I assume the ESS is reading correctly.

Any ideas? I suppose it's possible the LS1 coils I bought are also bad, but they aren't really known to fail. I also double checked the wiring, and believe it is correct. Any help would be appreciated!

 

Did you check eccentric shaft sensor?

 

You need to troubleshoot and it doesn't sound like you know how to do that well. So you installed junk yard coils but what conversion harness did you use?

 

As mentioned in my other thread, I got the spark issue sorted out. I feel that I'm reasonably competent at troubleshooting, and asking the forum if there are any common causes doesn't necessarily a bad troubleshooter make. A smart one, perhaps... But again, it runs now. Thanks for the help.
