Back Spacing

Looking at a few different wheel options and Im wondering what the maximum backspacing is on the RX8? I know on the FD RX-7 its 7.5" all around not sure on the 8..... I want to know How far I can go inboard on the rear wheel well until I start running into issues.....??

it’s approx. the same on 18”, about 0.20” (5mm) less on 17” is a safer bet in the front at full lock to avoid rubbing/hitting the control arm since the wheel barrel ID is smaller

the FD 18x10+50 standard fits 7.5” BS. Some of us have run 18x10.5+43 all around (7.75” BS) without rubbing, but that may come down to the specific wheel and how the manufacturer dimensions the ID barrel/lip. Your tire width may be more of a rubbing concern rather the wheel on the rear inside where the shock tower is located. Along with toe and camber settings which will influence this too.

Nobody in the modern age really refers to backspace much any more rather than offset is why there wasn’t much response. Of course the youngsters are more concerned with flush outer wheel lip cosmetic nonsense than anything else.

Teamrx8 you are awesome, yeah I'm old school lol and I understand offset but I'm used to the good old fb/fc rx7 days where backspace was the measurement you based wheel width and offsets from. This is the exact answer I was looking for and you have made my day as the 18x10 wheels I got a deal on have a 7.2 inch back space and I'm waiting on suspension parts right now and haven't test fit the wheels as it makes a difference with suspension setups as to how much inboard room is available, I'm planning on putting factory size 225 45 18 tires on the wheels if I cam find a local shop that will stretch them, I've got 225s on 10 inch wide wheels on my fb and like the way it holds out local autox courses. Again thanks for all the information and I hope this helps others with wheel fitment!!!
