Flashing Engine light-P0130 error

Hi all Im a south african user and own a 2004 Rx8-just had the engine overhauled new seals springs etc-when I get the car back the engine light starts flashing above 4000rpm, when its idles you can actually smell the fuel and its burning very rich-the error code I get from the dealer is P0130 circuit malfunction and he tells me that I need a new front O2 sensor. I have done as much research as I can and a flashing light normally means misfire and in most cases plugs/wires/coils need to be replaced-my coils are still new changed them 2000kms ago-

will a faulty/broken front O2 sensor cause the engine light to flash/misfire?
I just wanna make sure before I spend so much money on a new one.

Any help will be appreciated

Go to page 98 on this link. Bottom line is "Yes, I believe it will".

Might want to save the whole thing.

Note..............check the connector(s) first since so much work was done!

From: A Pacific Island.
Front sensor controls the 'closed loop' feedback, and if it's broken it will be undriveable.

Don't mess about, replace it.....

Have to go with Stealth one this one...better replace it.

Not sure why you needed a password to view that file because I didn't. Are you in the US?

Thanks for the replies, Im actually in South Africa.

Got the flashing engine light sorted out, needed to reset my ESS. now the light is just on and the code P0130 still comes up-Mazda says it could be the circuit or the sensor itself-going to buy the new sensor on saturday any advice before I make the plunge and spend all that cash?

Cos its gonna be a bummer if I change the sensor and the code still comes up.
As for the car being underivable-she idles very rough every now and then and fueling is bad-can actually smell the fuel when she idles-cuts of at 7000rpm when shes a bit hot as well-I take it the sensor is causing her to go into limp mode?
