engine & tranny problems

First of all i would like to share a little background on my car. I have an 04 rx8 MT with 58k . It is a salvage title car which i repaired. it had about 45k when i bought it. it was hit in the front driver side i replaced the hood, fender, bumper cover, and steering rack as far as the major parts.

I have had the car for 3 years now and am starting to get concerned. When i first finished the car it was great. After about a year and a half the clutch went out along with second gear. So i bought a used tranny with 25k on it and a new clutch and installed it. Now this tranny seems to be doing the same thing. I do drive pretty "spirited" at times but that shouldnt be the problem. And every car i have ever driven has been a manual and this has never happened.

I have been reading some of the posts about other people with transmission problems but what are the odds that i got 2 bad ones?? could something still be messed up from the crash over 3 years ago??

second I have been noticing a loss of power at low rpms and the car has been getting hard to start. I also was reading some about this and other people are having the same problem. what do i do about this??

And help is very much appreciated.

Thanks, Kory

Since you didn't buy a new transmission, you have no idea how the previous owner treated it so you're on your own there. As for the the hesitation and hard starts, first look at replacing the entire ignition system...coil, plugs, and wires. It also wouldn't hurt to take it it to have compression check down on the motor.

There was a TSB for hard starts and the recommendation then was an updated starter and battery. If you need great used parts get a hold of Paul at Mazmart, he's a vendor on here, he would be able to hook you up.

i think ill try coils plugs and wires.

as far as the tranny. It ran great when i got it. Its been about a year now and the signs of 2nd going out are comming back. its like the car just gradually wears something down till it cant shift from 1 to 2 anymore. its weird.

Also pay attention to the clutch pedal bracket.
Its known to tear around one of the spot welds and some people actually had their pedal snap off.
