Engine problems

Ok so I just bought a an 2004 rx8 thursday. It looks great and ran great. But friday morning i woke up to take it to get smoged and the check engine light started blinking. I was close to the mazda dealership so i took it there, but it was shifting weird on the wat there. By the time i got there there was smoke coming out of the hood. Any ideas of what it is? I really like the car and i wanna keep it.

It is kind of hard to diagnose something with so little info, maybe you will get lucky and someone had the same exact thing happen but I doubt it. You already have it at the Mazda dealer so its a bit late for that anyway.

The op just bought the car a few days ago and the op made the right choice in bringing it back to the dealership to have it fixed under warranty.

A blinking CEL indicates that there is a misfire. It could be anything in the ignition system, clogged catalytic converter....and more. You may have been sold a bad car. Anyone with a code reader can reset the ECU and hide a problem. Take it back to who ever you bought it from to see if they will do anything. Used cars are sold as-is, unless you got a warranty in writing, so don't expect anything.

smoking under the hood means something is leaking and getting on the header or hot engine block. Could be a cracked radiator. I just replaced a rad that had the top nipple for the coolant fill bottle cracked and under pressure it spewed onto the header making nice white smoke.

As stated earlier take it back to where you purchased it and go from there.
