Engine Issues

Hello All; I bought a used AT 2004 RX-8 28 days ago from a dealership in Vancouver. The car has 33,000 miles and looks great. The night we bought it I drove home and could feel the engine loosing power, knocking, Etc. Dropped off the family at home, turned around and when returning it to the dealership for repair it died at a red light. I walked home and had it towed. Next day dealership said they can not duplicate the problem, car started right up for them, said it might have been because they put regular unleaded in it.

Since then the car sometimes has power, sometimes not. Last Thursday it died again at a stop light in downtown Portland. Towed to the Mazda lot, called me the next day and said can't find the problem. This is where I was referred to your website to see if others have had the same problems, THANK YOU! I read that the main areas to check are compression, de-fog or carb, spark plugs, wires, and coils. I called the tech back Saturday and relayed what I had researched, he said that he found a bulletin and is in the process of de-fogging or carbing as we speak. He also replaced the battery, plugs, alternator.

Just received a call today from the technition, car needs a new motor and they have ordered it. All is under warranty and nothing out of my pocket but what do you guys think? Do I still need to worry about this car or does it sound like they are taking care of everything? I am looking at arbitration with them to trade out but am also likeing the idea of having a brand new engine. I love the RX-8 but don't want to deal with engine issues all the time. Let me know what you think and if you know how long it takes for a new engine to get installed. Thanks

A new engine = very good for you!
As long as the power loss wasn't from a clogged cat you should be fine.
Might as well ask them to check the cat anyway while they are in there.
