CA Ebrake lever not locking in place ... please help

Hey everyone I have a serious issue with my ebrake lever. For some reason it doesnt want to lock in place like the lock or gear is missing. I tried removing the plastic cover, and that didn't go so well, i Removed the plastic button but that didn't do any good. If possible i rather not remove the whole assembly because it looks like a pain to do but i have to i would(gah the whole center console).. maybe someone knows how to fix it easily, a diagram would definitely help me if someone has one to share... Anyone have any ideas how to fix the ebrake lever so it will lock again..? I'm definitely not driving my 8 around until its fix..
